We played our first match in our 32 year history on Sligo Rovers Showgrounds pitch in the final of the Frank Kennedy Memorial Cup. We started brightly when a corner from Críostóir Davey was headed down by Padraic Murtagh to Damian Waters who turned and shot but was saved by the keeper. We fell behind halfway through the half from a powerful header after a cross from the left. We were then dealt two injuries blows in quick succession when first Kieran Doddy went off, followed by Damian Waters. Then just before half time we conceded a second header when another cross from the left deflected in for an own goal after pressure from the Merville forward.
We started the second half brightly and were rewarded when Padraic Murtagh headed back a Merville kickout to Hughie Marren, who turned the defender and slid the ball through to Críostóir Davey who ran through and shot low past the keeper. We stepped up the pressure and had chances to equalise but couldn't take advantage of them. Merville were then awarded a soft penalty with less than ten minutes to go. We pushed hard for the final few minutes but could't find another goal.
After the game we were awarded our Division 1 Cup and medals.
