If you've been following me for a while, you probably have a pretty good idea of where i stand on the topic of new years resolutions.
In a nutshell, they're usually sh*te.
Slightly longer version: Lack of clear goals, thought behind them, emotional connection to them, or plans to achieve them, or support network for when things go wrong. Because things will go wrong. ESPECIALLY when you try to make big changes at the start of the year!
They're generally 2-3 weeks of forced positivity and motivation; and let me tell you, that gets old REAL quick.
So you won't see me promoting any of that "new year, new you" happy clappy bu****it that's designed to set you up to fail again, so you'll feel so bad about yourself thatyou'll be desperate to find a way that works, and buy whatever snake oil the shady internet marketers and shameless fu***ng "influncers" are peddling.
None of that sh*te here.
Just hard facts, meaningful questions, support, and occasionally some tough love.
Lesson 1:
F**k going on a diet at the start of January, thats a bloody terrible idea. Seriously. You might as well take up running by cutting off your feet at the ankles, that's how bad of an idea it is.
Why?
1. You've probably been over eating or eating sh*te for the last couple of weeks. Congratulations, that means you are human, same as me. You have established a HABIT of snacking on calorie rich foods; If you want to succeed you'll need to address that habit.
2. You probably still have loads of quality street, roses, mince pies, ferrero rocher, or whatever left over from the peak indulgence period. Is having all that in the house going to make it easier or harder to break the habit of snacking on energy rich foods? Bit of a no-brainer that one.
3. You may still be meeting up with friends more than usual for the next week or so. Don't go on a diet that's going to cause you to not enjoy the time you get to spend with family and friends, you never know when, or indeed if, you'll see them again.
4. The kids aren't back to school yet (not for another week in most cases), so you're not back to your normal routine yet. That's also going to make snacking on the go much more likely. And if you still have loads of junk food in the place, you're going to snack on it. There's loads of reasons for this, but i'm not going to bore you with the psychology of it all because this post is already turning into a fecking essay (If you WOULD like to know about the psychology behind it let me know, so i can include it in one of the workshops in the coming weeks).
