I am a third year Strength and Conditioning coach, currently studying with Setanta College and LIT over in Thurles. My area of focus is S&C work for soccer athletes and teams. With my knowledge and practical experience I am looking to help athletes build their athletic potential to perform at their peak level consistently. Injury prevention is a major part of S&C work and vitally important in team

sport so i am looking to make people more aware of injury prevention strategies. Overall I want to help athletes/teams move better, perform better and prolong their careers as long as possible with professional and solid advice.

I recently looked at a study conducted by DiSalvo et al (2007) which looked at the demands placed on elite soccer players during a match, the study looked at demands according to playing position to see if there are any significant differences. Based off the findings in this study you should have a better idea of what is required of your players for each playing position and it should also make you question your training techniques for your team. Want to know how you should be warming up for a soccer match?? Too long at amateur level have teams being warming up incorrectly. How often have you gone out for your warm-up or witnessed a warm-up where all that was involved was a light bit of running followed by blasting shots at the goalkeeper? This is the second athlete performing the L-test in a slo-mo video, this will give you a chance to compare each athletes technique in performing the test.

This test is known as the L-test, very similiar to the T-test only that one side is tested at a time as the athlete is not running to the far side after the turn on the side.
This is a slo-mo video so it gives you a chance to see what is really involved in the test and how the athlete completes the test.
I will put up a second video shortly of another athlete going through the same test who got a very similiar time. The two videos will let you see the different running mechanics and turning techniques of each athlete and how each athlete feels they have to approach each turn.

The test being carried out here is called a T-test. Another form of measuring agility, a lot of turns and changes of direction involved in this test so a really thorough test of an athletes agility.
