Not the happy finale to the season we were hoping for on Wednesday night, but our lads can hold their heads high after a battling performance.
Cian Bates’ goal after six minutes gave us the dream start. An excellent individual goal by Bates who turned two Tamhlacht players before racing in and showing great composure to slide the ball home.
A number of half chances fell the way of The Bawn, but Tamhlacht held firm. Conor Keating was forced into a number of superb interventions at the other end to keep the score at 1-0 going into the break.
A poor second half showing from us, it must be said, put paid to any hope of an upset. 45 minutes of football we will look back on with a lot of lessons to learn. Tamhlacht ruthlessly punishing every mistake we made with four goals, three in a fifteen minute spell.
A tough one to take but our lads can be proud of their efforts, particularly the first half performance as we put one of the best sides in the UCFL in serious trouble early on. It’s been a long season but one of steady progress.
Huge credit must go to Chris and Billy for their efforts this season. Expectations were high coming off the back of a double winning season last year, and once again we have continued our progression as a group. Wednesday wasn’t the ending we had hoped for, but it’ll serve as huge motivation for the future.
Well done to on the win. A well drilled side and a top group of lads. We wish them the best of luck in their upcoming Challenge Cup Final as they look to complete the treble.
Thank you to the Committee for putting on a fantastic event in an excellent venue for a cup final and for their help and support over the course of the season.
And finally a massive thank you to all who showed their support, either by tuning in to the livestream or by coming out to support on the day. A big crowd and a great atmosphere made it a brilliant occasion.
We will be back, but for now we look forward to a well deserved break before the start of Pre Season! 💙
