We are delighted to invite you to a special Instructor Demonstration in Kilronan Equestrian Centre

When?
Monday, 3rd August
11:00am - 2:00pm

This promises to be an informative and enjoyable event, giving riders and spectators a behind-the-scenes look at our brilliant group of horses

The day will begin with Kilronan Equestrian Centre instructor, Lydia, riding through a Prix St. Georges dressage test with her competition horse ‘Alf’, known to his friends as ‘King Alf’. The test will include advanced movements such as canter pirouettes and tempi changes. As Lydia rides, one of our instructors will provide a live commentary, explaining the purpose of each movement, how it is judged, and what judges are looking for when awarding marks. This will be a fantastic opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of dressage at an advanced level.

We will then move on to a simulated Retrained Racehorse Showing class, using our three retrained racehorses; Thunder, Nancy & Tiny, to demonstrate how these classes are judged. Our instructors will discuss the retraining process, explain what judges look for in these classes, and show how horses are assessed and placed. This will provide valuable insight for anyone interested in how one can retrain former racehorses. Most of our instructors will be involved and riding on the day!

To finish the day, we will present a simulated Working Hunter class using three of our school horses. We will talk through the judging process, explaining how horses are marked on their jumping performance, manners, conformation, and overall suitability for the class.

Throughout the demonstration there will be opportunities to ask questions and learn more about what is involved in preparing our horses and ponies to be ridden in lessons.

The cost of attending is €15 per rider currently attending lessons at Kilronan Equestrian Centre. We would also be delighted to welcome family members, and parents, grandparents, or other accompanying relatives may attend free of charge when accompanying a paying rider.

Booking can be done through our Hopoti site ✨️

And just like that, here we are — three weeks after the first of our horses and ponies began showing symptoms of respiratory illness.

Earlier this week, we received the results of the latest swabs taken on 7th May, and we are thrilled to share that all swabs came back negative for Equine Influenza — what a relief!

We are delighted to be welcoming our riders back to Kilronan this week, and are so grateful that all of our horses and ponies have recovered so well after enjoying a lovely two-week holiday in the sunshine.

Thank you all for your support, patience, and understanding during this time. We are very much looking forward to the busy summer ahead 🎊🌞

Hi everyone,

We wanted to keep our local community informed, and reduce the spread of misinformation.

We currently have a number of confirmed cases of Equine Influenza in our riding school yard. This is something that’s unfortunately doing the rounds at the moment, along with other respiratory illnesses, so we felt it was best to be open and proactive.

The good news is that all of our horses are doing well. They’re being closely monitored, receiving the veterinary care they need, and are already on the road to recovery.

As a precaution, we have made the decision to close the riding school for the next two weeks, and keep all livery horses on site, not allowing horses in or out. This will allow the illness to run its course, help prevent any further spread, and give all of our horses the time they need to rest and fully recover.

On the bright side, the horses are thoroughly enjoying their impromtu summer holiday in the good weather ☀️

Looking after horses that are not well is no mean feat, and we are very grateful to our vets in Royal Equine Vet Clinic for all of their support. As well as having the most amazing team on the ground caring for the horses & ponies every day.

We really appreciate everyone’s understanding and support at this time!
