Our thoughts are with you all in this difficult time.

Brendan reposes in Campbell's Funeral Home, Swinford (F12YE00) today Friday 8th May from 3pm until 7pm with Funeral Mass in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford at 2.30pm tomorrow Saturday 09th May prior to burial in Kilconduff cemetary.

This week’s Gents competition is the Ormsby Cup qualifier. The top 16 players will go forward to the match play stages.
Below is a little piece on Bill Ormsby.

Bill Ormsby was a low handicap player playing off 5 in Swinford back in the 40’s & 50’s. He represented the club on many occasions and was a member of the Connacht Shield winning team of 1953, the 1st pennant won by the club. In the final, the matches were tied 3 wins & 3 losses so Bill’s was the final match and it went all the way to the 20th hole which Bill won.
After WWII, Canon Higgins donated two perpetual cups for open competitions. The 1st open day was a spectacular affair with the legendary Cecil Ewing, member of the Walker Cup team, teeing off with Bill. Ewing carded a 72 and Ormsby a 73.
Bill was a very valued member of the club. In the very lean years of the club when money was tight he invented a drawbar for his VW car so that he could connect with the horse drawn mower and could be seen late into the night mowing the fairways for the next days golfing.
He was Captain of the club in 1941 and was made an honorary member in 1973.
Matchplay was his favourite form of competition which is why the Ormsby Cup is match play format. After his passing, the cup was presented to the club by his wife Eileen and his daughter Brenda and was first played for in 1973.
