INTRO TO SQUASH SOLO PRACTICE
Obvious precautions must be taken even though you are on court by yourself;
[1] Use hand sanitizer before entering court and on exit
[2] Don't wipe hands on walls ( glass or otherwise )
[3] Maintain social distancing in viewing areas behind courts.
Benefits of solo practice;
Even in the best of times when we can get practice partners and match opponents most professionals will do solo practice everyday. You can control what you do, monitor accuracy and correct technique. As you hit every ball yourself, a 30 min solo is the equivalent of an hour with a partner.
Principles of the solo practice sessions; you have a target that you are aiming for ( usually on the floor ) which you can adapt the size depending on your skill level, a number of times you aim to hit the target and a time limit to do so.
You move to the next drill when you achieve your goal or when the time runs out. This means you always complete the session and don't get stuck on any drill for too long.
Squash Solo session 40 mins
Take notes for yourself / Contact me with questions.
Session 1 - Basic Hitting
Warm up 3 mins - Gentle jogging with slow lunge each end. Include side stepping , high knees , kick backs progressing to 80% sprints.
Warm Ball - straight driving to bounce back of service box x20 over service line x20 under service line / each side ( back hand / fore hand ) progressing to bounceing behind service box and hitting back wall and hit again x20. ( make target progressingly smaller from width of service box into 4 boards )
Achieve required number or max 10 mins each side.
Progress to ; 5 straight drives and a high semi lob cross court and then same on back hand side. Continue for 10 mins or 20 completed change overs without mistake. !
( Quick stretch ) 2 mins goasting - 20 corners steady pace , quality footwork not speed.
Move up to 2 steps in front of service box and volley to yourself hitting service line on front wall. 25 shots in succession or 5 mins Both fore hand and back hand.
Repeat Goasting 2 mins with 1 min rest by 3 sets.
Finish + stretch 15 mins.
Record Targets / Times and Comments.

Sam Buckley has progressed nicely to reach the Top 8 in Boys U/19. Sam plays Jack Mitterer from England tomorrow.

Dean Dromgoole won his second match today beatin Sweden's Hamed Zaytoun 3/0. Dean pictured here with assistant Coach Oisin Dunne

As there is no U/11 Evernt in this tournament some of or juniors are playing up an age group. This can be challenging but it will bring their game on. It is an amazing opportunity to play new opponents in a different country.

Boys U/13 Winner: Conal Jackson
Girls U/15 Winner: Rebecca Kavanagh
Boys U/15 Winner: Adam Eason
Boys U/17 Winner: Dylan Moran

Some fantastic results

Dylan Moran cliched his title having dropped the first two games to Jack O'Flynn only to return with a vengeance taking the next 3. 6/11, 8/11, 11/8, 11/8, 11/6

Conal Jackson beat fellow Sutton Player Aaron Cullen in five with spectacular scoring from both. Conal went 13/11 up in the opener but stumbled in the next two with Aaron going 2/1 with 11/7, 11/7. Conal made an astonishing comeback 17/15 to bring the match 2/2. The last game was decisively Conal's taking the match 3/2.

Sam Buckley swept the Boys U/19 without dropping a game throughout the weekend.

One of our latest Academy players Advik Ajay came second in the Boys U/11 B section. Advik won his first 3 matches and brought the No:1 seed to the brink losing marginally 14/12 in the fifth.

So many outstanding results and we hope to see Sutton well represented on the Irish Squash Teams.
