With a new term of pilates on the horizon you may be wondering what “Is Pilates for me?” or “How will Pilates help?”. Read the cation below to gain some insight into Pilates🧘🏼‍♀️

Pilates is a series of about 500 exercises inspired by calisthenics, yoga and ballet. Pilates was first introduced into America by a personal trainer Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s. It was created as a way to help injured athletes and dancers safely return to exercise while still maintaining their fitness. Today Pilates has been adapted to suite people in all walks of life.

The aim of Pilates is to lengthen and stretches all the major muscle groups in the body in a balanced fashion. It improves flexibility, strength, balance and body awareness. Pilates is mainly focused on core contraction and involvement. Concentration is a large part of Pilates as it requires you to find a centre point (your core) to control the body through the various movements. Each exercise in a Pilates class will have a prescribed placement, rhythm and breathing pattern.
