Ballisodare United 1-0 Carbury FC
Carbury opened their 2026/2027 Sligo Southern Hotel Super League campaign with a defeat to Ballisodare in Ballisodare on Friday night.
Ben Sherlock’s 63rd minute goal was the difference in the end as Ballisodare came away with all three points.
There were Carbury debuts for James McCahill, James Keeley and Lerlah Hay who all started this game, while Jason Lyons made his Carbury return.
Rafa Sanchez de Brito also made his first appearance coming off the bench, with Aaron Murren making a return under new manager Andrew McLoughlin.
Roland Anderson headed over early on for Ballisodare, before Carbury had their first real chance as Steven Armstrong’s corner was nodded over by McCahill.
Cameron Flanagan thought he gave Ballisodare the lead on 18 minutes after a mistake in the Carbury defence, but his effort hit the post somehow.
Ibrahim Savage just needed a toe on Hay’s cross to put Carbury ahead, but couldn’t make the right connection.
The sides went in level at the break, and Carbury went close to opening the scoring six minutes into the second half when Savage’s cross landed perfectly for Lyons, but his shot from close range trickled wide.
The home side went ahead after 63 minutes courtesy of Sherlock after Carbury failed to deal with Stephen Fallon’s cross from the right.
And Ballisodare could have come away with a bigger lead but for a couple of big saves from Tony Clarke and a goal line clearance from Ryan McManus.
