We stayed a little bit closer to home last weekend to take part in ever popular Metalman Swim Series 🏊 For the third year running the conditions we’re deemed unsuitable in Rosses Point so the venue was changed to Mullaghmore where 239 swimmers entered the water throughout the 3 events 🌊 🏊🏼‍♀️

Water temperature was reported to be on the chilly side although I didn’t see a temperature reading I’d guess about 14 🌡️ We had 5 swimmers taking part and yet again representation in all 3 distances 💪 👏🏻

We were delighted to be in invited to the inaugural Swim Ireland Open Water Conference today in athlone which included Water Safety Ireland SWIM EIRE HSE Ireland 🏊 🛟 🇮🇪

The first of our open water events season started last weekend at the Gaelforce Events Great River Swim Lanesborough in what can only be described as “chilly 13 ish degree water” a far cry from the baking sunshine an “balmy 20 ish degree water” of the previous year 🥶

This year we had 9 swimmers taking part (and 5 more that could not make it) so we had representation in all distances again ❤️ Edward McGuire upgraded his silver from last year to take home the gold this year🏅 Huge well done to all swimmers on making it to the start line 💪

I have to give an extra shout out to our 12k swimmers in what was an achievement in itself completing the distance in that chilly water 🥶 The miserable weather put a slight dampener on the atmosphere as some people didn’t hang around afterwards as they usually would 🌧️ Not a great day for the stall holders that had set up..

🚨 Breaking News 🚨

Entries are now open for the Swim Ireland Open Water National Swimming Championships 2026 coming to us for the very first time this year in the beautiful Lough Key Forest & Activity Park on July 26th 🏰 🌲 If anyone is interested making a weekend of it there is an onsite campsite (tents/caravan/motorhomes), advanced booking is definitely advised 🏕️

There’s 4 different distances to choose from 1500m, 3000m, 5000m all the way up to the marathon 10000m, if your a Swim Ireland member enter your number at check out to avail of a 10€ discount 🏊 🏊🏼‍♀️

Just a reminder that the regular September swim event won’t be taking place this year as all swims are taking place on July 26th, we’re hoping for a large turnout so please SHARE this post to help spread the word ❤️

Club member Bernie Carthy recently completed the Wim Hof method instructor course in Poland to become an instructor and is now offering people a chance to experience the method in her home town, Carrick on Shannon 🛁 🥶
