Meet Kevin, we asked him some questions about triathlon journey so far….

1. Why & when you joined PTC:
I joined PTC in September 2024. We had two children in quick succession in 2018 & 2019. My hobbies/interests fell away while the kids were very young and then Covid didn’t help either. In summer 2024, I decided I needed to get out there again. I watched the triathlon during the Paris Olympics & thought that could be fun so I looked up local clubs & found PTC!

2. What got you into triathlon?
I always liked swimming & running and was looking to find a way to do both.
I thought triathlons could be a good option if I just added in cycling. I haven’t fallen in love with cycling yet but hopefully it’s coming!

3. Biggest challenge starting out?
Figuring out what equipment I needed from the many options out there. From getting a bike & equipment, turbo trainer, swim gear, wetsuit, running gear, it took me a long time to get a grip on it and I’m still learning all the time. I must say this would have been much more difficult without the help of my many clubmates who have patiently answered my many questions and have given me so many useful tips. I couldn’t imagine getting into a sport like triathlon without the support of a club

4. Best moment so far?
Getting a top 10 age group finish in my first olympic distance race in DCT this year. It was also the first race where my kids were there to support me. They ran the kids race that day and were very happy with their medals. It made it a special day for all the family (the pic is from that race)

5. One tip for new members
Ask questions! I’ve learned so much by just asking questions every time I’m around more experienced club mates & trying to soak up as much information as I can. I’ve found everyone to be so helpful

6. Next goal or race
I’m planning to concentrate on the National Series in 2026 & maybe an Ironman 70.3 in 2027

7. Favourite post-training treat
I generally try to eat something nutritious after training, something pasta based. It can be trickier when I train late in the evening, then I often have a quick cereal. Chocolate is definitely be my go to for a treat

Meet one of our newly crowned 👸Ironman & super mom, Lisa. Here’s her triathlon journey so far…..

1. When & why you joined PTC?
My story/reason for joining is unique! I joined PTC in 2023, 6 months pregnant, not exactly in peak triathlon condition. Feeling a bit lost, not being able to train the way I used to. Swimming was the only thing I could still do at that stage. Pool sessions were great & I really enjoyed the Friday social sea swims. I knew it was extra safe swimming in a group. I always had someone to help me zip up my wetsuit which was working overtime by then.

2. What got you into triathlon?
I’ve always considered myself a terrible runner. During Covid there wasn’t much to do. I decided to challenge myself & start running. Once I learned the art of pacing, I realised I actually enjoyed it! I’ve always been intrigued by triathlon, but my lack of confidence in running held me back. After building up my confidence, I thought, f**k it, I’ll book a sprint & see how it goes! Never did I think I would be at the start of a journey that would eventually bring me to completing a full Ironman.

3. What was the biggest challenge of staring out?
From an early age, I’ve always played team sports. I found the transition to triathlon quite lonely initially. Through PTC, I’ve found a group of likeminded people who make the sport feel social & supportive. It no longer feels like a solo sport. I’ve small kids so I can’t always make the group sessions but there’s always someone offering support in other ways, whether it’s lending a bike box or sharing advice & encouragement. It’s so much more than a club, it’s a community.

4. Best moment so far.
Completing my first full Ironman in Cascais in October. That feeling running down the red carpet is incredible.

5. One tip for new members.
Just book the race! Put a date in the diary & the rest will fall into place.

6. Next goal or race?
I want to race more. I plan to do more National Series races & a 70.3 in Emilia Romagna in September.

7. Favourite post training treat?
Tacos & an Aperol from little green. It’s all about balance!

Meet Elaine, we’ve asked her a few questions about her Triathlon journey to date:

1. Why & when you joined PTC: I joined January 2023. My brother had started doing triathlons and I loved the idea of the three sports. I was also in a running club and got talking to my friends Helena and Grace who had just started triathlons as well. It was Helena that suggested we join the club. So we signed up and it was the best thing I did.

2. What got you into triathlon? I wanted to push myself and see if I could add new disciplines in my training. Starting a bit older I wasn’t sure how it would go! I signed up for adult swimming lessons in my local pool before starting swimming with the club.

3. Biggest challenge starting out? Biggest challenge for me was swimming. I had to start from scratch and learn how to swim properly. I’ve always ran from young age. Whether playing sport or running with my club so that’s where I felt comfortable. Once I worked on my swimming. My next challenge was to work on the bike.

4. Best moment so far? Best moment was running over the finish line at 70.3 Ironman in cascais. I knew I worked very hard to complete it and it was such amazing moment to do it with all my family and friends there supporting me. Also on the same course my brother was doing the full Ironman. It was unbelievable weekend for my family.

5. One tip for new members: enjoy the journey and listen to all the tips and support everyone gives. It’s great to start at the beginning build your triathlon life. From sprint to 70.3 Ironman I loved every moment. You meet great people along the way.

6. Next goal or race: next goal to work on the longer distances T100 & another 70.3. Also to enjoy the shorter distances you can’t beat a sprint.

7. Favourite post-training treat: has to be coffee & cake after a cycle
