A brilliant way to finish a very special season!

Corrib Basketball Club are incredibly proud of Muireann Elliman and Amy Lyons, who represented Galway U17s at yesterday’s NABC Interregional Tournament in Claregalway and came away with a Plate winners’ medal.

Galway had a fantastic day, winning 4 games out of 5 and finishing as Plate champions.

For both girls, it was another lovely milestone in a remarkable basketball year.

Together, they helped Corrib U17 Girls to a brilliant Galway League and Cup double, and were also part of the Corrib squad that won the EGC Legends Plate earlier in the season.

Amy also helped St Paul’s Oughterard to a historic Connacht and All-Ireland Schools title, capping off an extraordinary season across club, school and county basketball.

Both girls have played a huge part in Corrib’s journey this year, and it was great to see them recognised as part of the Galway U17 squad.

Congratulations to Muireann, Amy the Galway U17 girls and coaches, and huge thanks to Hannah, Catherine, GABB, the referees, table officials and all the volunteers who made the tournament such a success.

And good luck to the Galway u17 lads today!!

Corrib U17 Girls Complete the League and Cup Double!

What a finish to a remarkable season.

Corrib U17 Girls travelled to a packed Westside on Friday evening and came away with a brilliant 45–41 win over Titans to secure the Galway League title and complete the League and Cup double.

Final game of the league. Titans and Corrib tied at the top. Winner takes all.

It was every bit the season-defining showdown everyone expected. Titans brought huge physicality, their supporters brought serious noise, and a full-strength defending double-champion team was never going to lie down.

Corrib started superbly, moving the ball well and racing into a 17–8 lead after the first quarter. But Titans responded with real aggression, attacked the basket, pushed the tempo, and forced the game back into a battle.

With the score at 40–40 late on, Corrib found one more response. Big plays, crucial stops, calm heads, and the girls held their nerve to see it out 45–41.

That composure did not come from nowhere.

After back-to-back league losses to St Colms and Titans in January, the girls responded with a 12–0 run to finish the season, winning both the Cup and the League. The biggest improvement in this team has been defence. They became tougher, more disciplined, more connected, and much harder to score against.

This has been a brilliant journey for this group. At U13, they won one game. At U14, they won three. At U15, they went 7–7. Last season at U16, they went 10–4 and qualified for the AICCs. This season they finished 12–2 in the league and 4–0 in the Cup — a combined 16–2 record and an 88.9% win rate.

The 10–0 All-Ireland Schools run to win the U16B Schools All-Irelands gave the girls huge confidence. The Spain trip, the tight games late in the season, the extra training sessions, the illnesses and injuries, and all the hard lessons along the way helped prepare them for a game like this. Some of the girls have played close to 30 games of basketball this season, and every bit of that experience mattered.

Across those 18 league and cup games, every single player contributed. Every rebound, steal, pass, assist, deny, fast break, screen, box-out and defensive stop added up to the wins that won the League and Cup.

But the best part has been how they did it. When the pressure was on, when mistakes happened and when games got tight, they stuck together. They made each other laugh, lifted each other up, communicated, collaborated and worked it out. Together.

What a team.

Huge credit to Titans for a brilliant game and a brilliant rivalry this season. The standard across the U17 Girls League has been excellent, with tighter games, higher standards, and real growth across the teams. Friday night was a fitting finale to a superb league season.

Huge thanks to all the parents and supporters. The players and coaches could absolutely hear you on Friday, and that support mattered.

A huge, sincere thank you to Coach Grant for developing such a fun, positive and productive season of improvement. This team has been an absolute joy to coach.

Thanks also to GABB, the referees and all the table officials who kept a fabulous season going across Galway basketball.

And finally, sincere thanks to all our sponsors, whose support helped give the girls opportunities and experiences they will remember for a long time.

All-Ireland U16B Schools winners. Galway U17 Cup winners. U17 League winners.

What a fabulous end-of-season blitz for the Corrib U10 girls at Clarin College on Saturday 11 April.

A huge thank you to EGC, who were superbly organised as always and such wonderful hosts. The blitz was great fun from start to finish and a brilliant first blitz experience for our Corrib girls.

Well done to all the players, and huge thanks as well to Patrick and Emma Burke, Niamh Gallagher and Rhiannon Devlin, who coach this group, and to Ailbhe Milward, who has been instrumental in the blitzes.

Sincere thanks again to EGC for putting on such a fantastic day!

Two very good league performances from our U17 girls over the past few days, with home and away wins over Annaghdown and Clare Panthers.

What was most pleasing was the calm, composed way the girls approached both games and the real sense of togetherness in their performances. Everyone contributed, everyone played their part, and the group showed great energy and focus across the two matches.

Sunday’s trip to Ennis was always going to be a good test, and the girls handled it really well. There was a strong response, good maturity, and a real willingness to work for each other from start to finish.

These were two valuable outings at just the right time and good preparation for our trip to the Tomas Sola Tournament in Spain this Thursday!

A big thank you to all the players and parents for the support over the past few days, especially to everyone who made the trip to Ennis on a Sunday. Thanks as well to the referees and table officials at both games.

And thank you to our sponsors and supporters for backing the girls and the club: , , , , , Spencer Auctioneers, , Flaherty’s Pharmacy Oughterard, Chris Carr Physio, , , and Kirby Group .

Well done girls and have fun in Spain!!

Well gosh! What a day for our U17 girls — Cup Champions! 🏆💚

Huge congratulations to this brilliant group, who came through a high-quality, hard-fought Galway Cup Final yesterday to beat a very strong St Colms side.

This has been coming and is so well deserved.

We flew out of the blocks from the opening tip, playing with real pace, composure and aggression, and built a strong first-half lead with excellent team defence, smart rotations and big contributions all over the floor.

But full credit to St Colms — they came roaring back in the second half, knocked down some huge threes, and turned it into a real battle in front of a fab crowd.

When the game got tight, our girls dug in again. They found another gear, showed real hunger and togetherness, and finished the job with great character.

It was a cracking final between two very good teams.

A special thanks as well to St Colms for joining our league this season and bringing such lovely ball movement and competitive basketball. We really hope to see them back next season.

A huge special mention to Michelle Osborne, who picked up MVP after a powerhouse performance on both ends of the floor — rebounding, defending and scoring. A brilliant effort and a very well-deserved award 🏆👏

Massive credit as well to every single player in the squad. This group has worked so hard, kept improving, and really earned this one.

Many thanks as well to all the parents and supporters for keeping us going!!

Huge thanks to Hannah and Ali and GABB for organising the day, the table officials for their work, and to our sponsors and supporters: , , , , , Spencer Auctioneers, , Flaherty’s Pharmacy Oughterard, Chris Carr Physio, , , and Kirby Group
