The Dual County Cycling Challenge takes place this Saturday, with all proceeds in aid of Athea Playground.
It’s fantastic to see the local community getting behind the event — and as you can see from the video, there are plenty of good reasons to support this brilliant local project! ❤️
🔵 90km Route – 9:00am
🔴 50km Route – 9:10am
📍 Con Colbert Hall, Athea

🚴 All abilities welcome

Both lads have been preforming brilliantly over the last few months and thoroughly deserved their place on the Munster Cycling Academy & Munster Development Team which includes the winner of stage 3 of our pj o riordan race

🚴‍♂️💛🖤 SUNDAY CLUB SPIN TO BALLYBUNION 💛🖤🚴‍♀️

This Sunday, 30th August, Newcastle West Cycling Club is heading for Ballybunion! 🌊☀️

📍 Starting from the Greenway Car Park
🚴 Greenway → Listowel → Ballybunion
☕ 1-hour break in Ballybunion for some food and refreshments
🌊 Home via the Coast Road → Foynes → Shanagolden
📏 Approx. 130km

A great long spin and perfect preparation ahead of Athea the following Saturday. 💪🚴

Everyone is welcome — bring plenty of water and snacks, look out for each other, and enjoy the day. 🙌

Great roads, great company and hopefully a great day in the saddle! 💛🖤

🚴‍♂️ SUPER SUNDAY SPIN – NCW CC! 💛🖤

What a turnout this morning! 👏 Brilliant to see such a big group out enjoying the sunshine, good roads and, most importantly, the craic! 😎☀️

Thanks to everyone who came along, and especially to those who helped keep the groups together and made it an enjoyable spin for all abilities.

We might even manage to follow the actual planned route next time! 😂😂

Athea Dual County Cycle – Saturday, 5th September 2026 🚴
Athea Playground Commitee is working to create a fully inclusive playground and recreation space where children of all abilities can play together, alongside an all-weather pitch and facilities for the wider community.
We are extremely grateful for the continued annual support of Newcastle West Cycling Club. Their support for our 2025 cycle helped raise an incredible €5,315, and we’re delighted to have them supporting us again this year! 💛
Our project remains debt-free, with €215,000 in grant funding secured to date:
• €100,000 – Mayor Moran
• €65,000 – CLÁR 2025
• €50,000 – SSE Renewables
We also currently have €14,155.75 in our Athea Playground Credit Union account.
🚴 This year’s Dual County Cycle takes place Saturday, 5th September, with 90km and 50km routes — and everyone is welcome!
Every cyclist, sponsor and supporter brings us another step closer to creating a space where everyone belongs.

🚴‍♀️ Member Spotlight – Kitty

This week we're delighted to shine the spotlight on Kitty, a great member of Newcastle West Cycling Club — and before we start, a belated Happy Birthday from all the gang at NCW CC! 🎂🎉

🚴 When did you join the club?
I joined in 2015.

💛 What made you join?
I was encouraged to join by a few of the ladies in the club.

😊 What do you enjoy most about cycling?
It actually took me years to really enjoy cycling because I'd never done anything like it before. Newcastle West Cycling Club was the first club I'd ever joined, and what I really enjoy now is the craic and the company.

🍦 Favourite cycling memory?
Looking for a 99 ice cream in Ballingarry and Dan being in complete shock! 😜

☕ Favourite club route or stop?
The Kilmeedy routes — especially when there's coffee involved!

❤️ What does Newcastle West Cycling Club mean to you?
Community.

Kitty's story is exactly what a cycling club is all about. You don't have to be an experienced cyclist or have years on the bike — sometimes you just need a bit of encouragement, good company and plenty of craic along the way.
