At our Presentation Night, CYMS Snooker Club was proud to make a very special presentation to Jim Carrick, who became the first person ever to receive Lifetime Honorary Membership of the club.

For more than 20 years, Jim has been the driving force behind CYMS Snooker Club. As Treasurer, organiser, mentor, and friend, he has given countless hours of his time to ensure the club continued to grow and thrive. His dedication, commitment, and hard work have been the backbone of the club for many years.

This award is a small token of our appreciation for everything Jim has done for the CYMS Snooker Club and its members. His contribution to the club is impossible to measure, and this honour is richly deserved.

It was our end of season Six Red competition last night, so it was no surprise to see another big turnout, with 28 players going to post.

We also had a few new members competing in their first ever tournament, and it was great to see them really enjoying the experience.

It was the two Marks who battled their way through the field to reach the final. Mark Madden was playing in his second final of the year and was hoping to go one better this time against Mark Donovan, who had already won three times this season. Mark Donovan was hoping to join that elite bunch on four wins for a season however it was not to be 😥

After sharing the spoils with one frame each, it all came down to a respotted black to decide the final Six Red competition of the season. Mark Madden held his nerve to claim his first Six Red title. I’m sure everyone will be delighted to see Mark get his first win, as he is one of our most regular competitors.

We have our presentation night coming up this Saturday in Johnson’s Bar, Newbridge. All are welcome.

Six Red Competition,

Another great turnout last night, with 24 players enjoying a night of competitive snooker and plenty of friendly banter.

We’re taking a summer break after next week’s Six Red, so it would be great to finish with another full turnout. The race to be crowned our 2025/26 Six Red Champion is still wide open, with three players tied on four wins and several others close behind. The overall winner will be presented with their trophy at our end of season presentation night on 13th June in Johnston’s Bar.

Last night’s final featured a first-time finalist, Steph O’Connor, whose commitment throughout the season paid off with a place in the decider. Standing in his way was experienced finalist Daithi O’Connell, who was making his third final appearance of the season. Daithi proved too strong on the night, winning 2–0.

Well done, Daithi, and hard luck, Steph. See you all next week.

It was very hot in the club last night for our weekly Six Red competition. We didn’t expect a full house ,competing against that weather is hard but that didn’t stop 18 players from making their way in to take part.

Richie Hall and Aaron Donnelly reached the final, and it was Richie who picked up his third Six Red winner’s prize and the honour of being called the current champion (for a week at least!). Well deserved, Richie, and hard luck to Aaron, who was trying to go top for the most Six Red wins this season. There’s always next week!

Normally in early May, our Six Red competition winds down for the summer. Last night, we had another Tuesday night with 25 players turning up to play, so much for the wind down then 🤣. We will keep it going as long as we are getting the numbers. Maybe there will be no break this year!

We had three new members playing in their first Six Red competition night, and that’s nice to see. However, it was two of the long-established members who made it to the final. Alan McCoy and Vernon Walker are no strangers to Six Red finals. It was Alan McCoy who came out on top with a decisive 2–0 victory over Vernon. Well done, Alan, and hard luck, Vernon.

ast night’s Six Red snooker competition was packed to the gills with players looking to add to their spending money for the summer holidays. However, only two players get some dosh, the winner and the runner-up. Paul Thackaberry and Anto Flanagan brushed aside everyone to make it to last night’s final. They decided to play a one-frame final due to the time. Anyway, Anto was crying because he had to be up at 6am. 🤣

It was the experienced Anto who took the title this week, and he now joins an elite group of players who have won four Six Reds this season. Well played, Anto, and hard luck, Paul.

Another full house last night for our weekly Six Red competition. We had five juniors competing, which is great to see. However, it wasn’t a junior who picked up the bragging rights and prize money ,it was another win for club legend Christy Shields.

He came up against in-form Owen Roddy in the final. Owen is currently top of Division 4, so it’s no surprise he reached his first Six Red final on his debut. The experienced Christy tied Owen up, as he so often does.

Hard luck, Owen, and well done again to the grinder from Newbridge.

Everyone is scratching their heads in the CYMS Snooker Club these days, and it’s not because of an infestation of dodgy insects or some strange disease. It’s because the numbers showing up at our weekly Six Red competition aren’t making a lot of sense.

We had a full house again last night, and for this time of year, that blows our minds. It may be down to the number of new members who have joined over the last few weeks. We’re up about 15% from a few months back.

Ed Donnelly and Victor McCormack battled their way to the final last night. Ed was literally limping around the tables, however, that didn’t stop him from dispatching all who came before him, until he met the in-form Victor.

Victor has now reached six Six Red finals this season, and after beating Ed 2–0, this marks his third win. 🏆

If you’re interested in joining, why not get in touch? We’re a very welcoming bunch here in Ireland’s best snooker club 🤗, just comment below or send us a DM.
