Weighing yourself is probably the most common way that people measure their progress when trying to lose fat!

So if you’re going to do it, at least understand the daily fluctuations and why they happen.

This is the most common reason for the fluctuations.

Just remember - WATER IS NOT FAT!

So stop worrying about it.

If you want to weigh, you’re probably best to weigh every day and then get an average for the week. Then compare your averages over time to see the trend.

But for the love of god don’t stress over a sudden change.

Training is just one piece of the puzzle.

If the other pieces are missing or neglected, you won’t get too far.

A trainers job is to safely take you through a workout, a coaches job is to help you reach your goals with all aspects of a plan that will matter to you.

That’s your training, your nutrition (if qualified to do so), your recovery, your sleep, your habits your behaviours, your stress etc.

Nowadays alot of us adopt the more is better approach when it comes to training, but in doing so we sacrifice something else. Your recovery, your time with family, your sleep for example.

Start putting more thought into what you will be able to do in the long term.

The clock will keep turning everyday, so in my opinion an ALL IN, ALL OR NOTHING approach serves us very little except to get good short term results, and inevitably feel worse when we can’t sustain them.

Food for thought.

PROGRESS UPDATE!

This is my client (anonymous), let’s just call her X.

She came to me in September to help her get wedding ready. So here’s what we did:

We calculated and set out an initial calorie target of 2000 kcals per day to avoid any crash dieting. Protein was set at 145g per day. As always I emphasize that this is a starting point and calories can be adjusted depending on what feedback we’re getting (training, energy, sleep, satiety etc).

Training: We initially started with a 4 x day per week workout routine. Upper pull/Upper push/Lower/Full body. We kept the workouts to an hour or less. The main emphasis was on daily movement, mainly walking/steps.

We adjusted the workouts, calories and steps as the time passed and the body fat dropped.

There was times where progress stalled slightly. This is normal, but we stuck to the plan and kept going. And I’m so pleased with X’s results as she gets ready to celebrate her wedding.

Very proud coach!

I’ve put creating content and posting videos on the back burner over the last year.

To be completely honest I didn’t feel like it all mattered as much over the last 15 months since the bombing started in Palestine.

I’ve tried to be as vocal as I could and keep true to myself by speaking my opinion on the occupation and genocide that was happening.

This came at a cost to my business as Meta massively silenced and restricted my reach and story views as a result. This is just one example of the censorship that the western media and social media has been enforcing on anyone who spoke up for the people of Gaza. But who cares. It was the smallest personal cost for me and even though I know that by me speaking about it didn’t change anything it at least kept my moral compass firmly in place and allowed me to connect with other people as passionate about it such as .christina_geniusjuniors and who have been relentless in their posting and support for the Palestinians. As I always said if you can reach even one person and get them to also speak up then the knock on effect is huge.

While I could put more focus than ever on my current clients which I always prioritise, the ability to reach new people was essentially taken away. Punishment for speaking out about the murder of innocent kids and the very obvious racism at the root of it all. What a world we live in.

Now that the ceasefire in in place (as fragile as it is), it is more important now more than ever to keep talking about the struggles that the Palestinians have faced for over 75 years. As an Irishman, we know all too well about the history of occupation, colonialism and genocide. And also about how it gets covered up. So let’s stay vocal for what is right. Always.

I will get back to creating videos that will hopefully help my audience when it comes to training and nutrition. I will also always continue to stand for what I believe is right. And I urge you to do the same.
