It's rally week, people! and time for the long awaited Galway Motor Club Summer Stages rally, the excitement is building, the entry list is nearly ready for release, and the madness is ready to unfold. Ballinsloe is ready and waiting for the huge influx of cars, the drivers and navigators, the service crews, and all the hoards of spectators, all hoping to grab a piece of the action. In terms, it's the penultimate round, the showdown is on, and the gauntlet has well and truly been thrown down. This season has not been scripted in any shape or form as to previous years. Usually, there is a lot more consistency. However, it definitely does show how ultra competitive each and every class has been, we have had only a handful of crews who have managed to grab maximum scores in the capacity classes where top points are available , its only when we start to breakdown the championship tables and figuring which four scores we will hold onto do we start to see a clearer picture, and with Galway to run this weekend and harvest rally to run in October those 2 scores can now only be determined as vital going forward as they truly may have the deciding factor in our overall top 3. Now we have reached the latter part of August. You will never find time flying round to our Championship prizegiving on Saturday, the 31st of October. Your guess is as good as ours as to who we will crown as our Champions.
Currently leading the series at the moment Gareth Deazley and Oisin Joyce, the class 20 crew, have their Mitsubishi Evo9 clear by eight points, second place in the drivers category, is joint three ways between, class 12 Ford Es**rt Mk2 of Justin Smyth, Class13 Toyota Starlet of Ben McIntyre and Class10 Opel Corsa of Paul Cullen, whilst the respective second place in the navigators is being held by Domhnall Lennon as he has contested all 4 rounds ( class 13 Mickey Conlon) While joint 3rd navigators are Justin and Ben's co-drivers Ciaran McGorman and Anthony McDonald, Paul Cullen. Kids of Galway dont forget to download our colouring in the poster, and please drop them into the rally office before 6 pm on Saturday evening!
Gary Leonard and all the team at Galway Motor Club will be on high alert all week putting the finishing touches to the event, and we hope that everyone will weigh in and help in whatever capacity to leave the week as stress free as remotely possible, should that be volunteers to marshal, keep the event moving forward in. It is a timely manner, and above all, keeping the race in its place ! Thanks to James Burke Photography for use of the great images.
