GAA Specific Personal training:
This training programme is a mixture of in person training combined with remote training with the goal to enhance the different fitness components associated with the specific demands of GAA. An outline of what to expect is included below:
FMS - The athlete will be initially screened and given appropriate exercises to address any imbalances/asymmetries (as appropriate). The tests will include Squat, Hurdle step, In-Line lunge, Shoulder Mobility, Active straight-leg raise, Trunk stability Push up and Rotary Stability. All clearance tests will also be included.
Hypertrophy/Strength and Power - Utilising a linear model of periodisation we will first include a short block of Anatomical adaptation work followed by a training block with the goal to increase muscle mass thus increasing force production capabilities, strength specific training and onto power where we will be focusing on both force and velocity.
Endurance Development - Specifically designed to meet the required demands of the modern GAA player. Will include MAS testing, utilise The Eurofit method to enhance aerobic capacity which will meet the intermittent, multi sprint nature of the sport. Here we will also include small sided games (SSG's) to tax sports specific agility/aerobic/anaerobic capacity which will allow the athlete to recover quick between sprints, enhance the athlete's ability to perform repeated bouts of high intense work and decrease in-season injury rate along with taxing GAA specific skills in a competitive/fatigued state.
Speed Developmnent - Here we will work on improving the athlete's sprint mechanics which will enhance initial acceleration, deceleration, agility and max velocity. A focus will be on developing reactive strength, emphasis placed on athlete's stretch shortening cycle, horizonal/vertical force production along with enhancing explosive strength. Methods used will include running mechanics drills, resisted/assisted sprints, appropriate plyometrics and appropriate weight training.
Please note: This programme is NOT for everyone. It will take a lot of time, commitment and work. Also, programming will be specific to each individual and can be tailored around club training if required.
