this is why I wanted to be a personal trainer. right there.
as much as I adore the science behind how bodies work and how bodies change, there’s no denying the weight loss industry is chock full of scammers, liars and people who want you to do dangerous things just to conform to expectations that weren’t realistic in the first place.
I struggled with my own eating a lot, I remember buying “low calorie hot chocolate” and “one calorie pasta” (what the f**k is one calorie anything? it tasted like s**t, unsurprisingly). I tracked everything meticulously, if myfitnesspal had an option for oxygen, I would’ve tracked it.
I’m so tired of seeing the newest “miracle weight loss device” on the market when it’s just a glorified battery operated piece of junk. I’m tired of seeing innocent people being tricked into thinking they need to “detox” with juice cleanses or “fat-burning pills”.
you don’t need to conform to the expectation of being super duper skinny or a mini muscular Arnold to
1. enjoy moving your body the way that you want to
2. have worth and deserve respect as a person
3. be considered beautiful
there’s a million, billion benefits to movement that aren’t weight loss & the most vindicating and wonderful thing as a trainer is getting to see your clients mindset shift.
anyway, I love my job, I love this book, ty for coming to my ted talk.
