🌟 50 Years of Macroom Judo Club — A Legacy That Shaped Generations 🌟 🥋
This milestone is more than a celebration it’s an incredible achievement for all of us who have walked onto the mats, past and present. As athletes, we know what commitment means. But 50 years of dedication… that is something truly special.
Through the decades, many athletes have come through the doors of this club. Ted Leahy, the founder of Macroom Judo Club, has been the heart and backbone of this place since the very beginning. Some of us were lucky enough to be coached by him.
Some earned black belts under his guidance, others trained here before finding elsewhere and still today, some of us are training hard, competing strong, and dreaming even bigger.
But no matter where life takes us… We always carry something he taught us.
Ted’s influence has never been just about Judo. It’s about discipline, respect, resilience, and belief in yourself, both on and off the mats. For many of us, he wasn’t only a coach, he was a mentor, a role model, and at times, the voice of life advice we needed to hear.
To stay committed for 50 years through changing generations, changing times, work life, family life, that takes heart.
Because of that heart, Macroom Judo Club is still thriving today. Still competing, still producing athletes and still inspiring new dreams.
Ted didn’t just build a club, he built a home for athletes, a place where character is shaped, friendships are made, confidence is built, and futures are changed.
From all of us who have ever worn a gi under this roof, Thank you, Ted, for shaping athletes, for building dreams, for believing in us, so that we could learn to believe in ourselves.
Here’s to 50 incredible years, and to the next generation who will walk through the doors of Macroom Judo Club and feel that same inspiration. 🥋💫
Jigoro Kano, once said:
“The ultimate goal of judo is not victory or defeat, but the perfection of one’s character.”
That quote captures Ted’s impact perfectly, because he didn’t just train athletes for competition… he helped shape their character for life.
Thank you.
