Hiking
Weekly trip where up to 50 members leave the campus on a coach and head to remote locations to explore the hills and see some of the most spect
acular sights in Ireland. We work as a team to get to the top of the mountain and then share the view from the top! Climbing
We organise regular trips to some of Ireland's greatest climbing crags and sea cliffs. Our capable leaders will set up and show you the ropes as you get a feel for the rugged limestone in the Burren, or the shiny granite in Dalkey Quarry. You can do as much as you feel comfortable doing, with climbing for all levels catered for. You may even get to do an abseil or rappelle, an experience you will likely never forget. All climbing equipment that you may require (Helmet, Harness, Rock shoes) will be provided by the club. There is also an international trip to sunny Spain for (almost guaranteed) good weather to improve on your technique and skills! Caving
One of the strongest parts of the club, with trips taking place midweek and at weekends. Join Cillian and Áine on board the SU minibus and explore many of the magnificent caves that are dotted all over the Burren in Co. Or you could go further afield on a weekend and go to Fermanagh where you can experience technical caving! The sport is also very beginner friendly with all of the equipment provided. (Don't forget your kitchen gloves!) An annual trip to the Yorkshire Dales in the UK takes place during Easter. Orienteering
We host regular trips to various orienteering events all over Ireland. Learn all of the skills in our in-house training and join the crew at the start line! It is a great way to improve your fitness and you get to have great fun along the way! Mountaineering
Join one of our senior members on a Saturday and head to the mountains of Ireland for some mountaineering action. Howling Ridge on Carrantuohill or Stumpa on Benkeeragh are all within easy reach for a great day out. Mountaineering is a combination of hillwalking and climbing, usually easy climbing mixed with difficult hillwalking. Annual international trips provide all the training and experience for you to become a competent mountaineer, as well as having great fun abroad. You can get your ice axes and crampons stuck in to the Ice on Ben Nevis in Scotland, or get high in altitude in the French alps. Not as beginner friendly as other activities but if you are interested, the opportunities are most certainly there.
