The reason us small breeder keep going - always hoping to breed a freak from humble beginings!!!
A Ode To Hewick.
Here's to Hewick, the people's horse,
Who followed his heart and his glorious course.
From Carlow he triumphed, from dream to acclaim,
Forever we'll cherish and honour your name.
From humble beginnings, just eight-fifty paid,
A bargain-born champion whose fortune was made.
No blue-blooded pedigree, no price-tag of fame,
Yet Hewick from Carlow would kindle a flame.
In Fenniscourt stables, with Shark at the helm,
He nurtured a dream that would capture the realm.
With patience and wisdom, and faith all the way,
A hero emerged from the work of each day.
Shark Hanlon first spotted the spark,
A horse with a heart that could shine in the dark.
With Paddy & Sean they travelled a road few could see,
From local hope to racing royalty.
The Galway Plate thundered beneath summer skies,
As Hewick swept forward to gasps and surprise.
The crowds roared his name as he galloped to glory,
Adding a golden new chapter to story.
Across the Atlantic his fame swiftly spread,
To the American Grand National he led.
With courage and class on that far-away stage,
He thrilled racing fans of every age.
Then Kempton stood witness one Christmas to fame,
When the mighty King George was claimed in his name.
Against racing giants he answered the call,
Proving that heart can be greater than all.
More than nine hundred thousand in winnings he earned,
Yet money was never the reason he burned.
For people loved Hewick, his spirit and grace,
The character, courage and joy of the race.
So raise now a glass as the sun settles low,
For a champion retiring, loved wherever he'd go.
To Hewick, to Shark, and to TJ as well,
May his legend live on in each story we tell.
Here's to Hewick, the people's horse,
Who followed his heart and his glorious course.
From Carlow he triumphed, from dream to acclaim,
Forever we'll cherish and honour your name.
