Upcoming Schoolchildren’s Walk for Road Safety – Thursday, 13th November
On Thursday, 13th November at 12 noon, students from Seamount College, St. Joseph’s National School, and Kinvara Community Crèche will take part in a peaceful walk through the village. They aim to highlight the ongoing dangers posed by heavy traffic and the lack of safe pedestrian crossings in Kinvara.
For more than 20 years, Kinvara Community Council has campaigned for a comprehensive traffic management plan. Despite repeated appeals, Galway County Council has yet to deliver a concrete solution. Although a Community Transport Study was recently completed, its findings have not yet been made public.
Concerns have grown following three pedestrian accidents in October, incidents which were widely covered in local media. While the Council stated that a plan for Kinvara would be presented to councillors in early November, no such presentation occurred at this month’s meeting.
In response, Kinvara’s young people are taking a stand. Their short demonstration will require a temporary closure of Main Street for approximately 30 minutes, as they walk from Seamount College to St. Joseph’s.
The students and organisers sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and ask for your support and understanding. You can show encouragement by joining the walk or simply by lining Main Street during this brief event to express solidarity with their call for safer streets.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in making Kinvara a safer place for everyone.
