Scouting Started in Ireland in 1927 but within Just 5 years the Carrickmacross Scout Group was established back as early as 1932. In recent times the Scout Group has grown from strength to strength. In 2007 the Scout Group purchased a plot of land to develop as a group campsite on Coillte lands at Dun Na Ri forest park in Kingscourt (See map elsewhere for directions). That marked the end of an alm

ost ten-year search for a local campsite and marked the beginning of a new and exciting era for the Scout Group. This beautiful modern Scout Centre set amidst the beautiful forestry of the Dun a Ri Forest Park. The Campsite field itself is akin to a football field with just a slight fall off for drainage purposes. The ground is well drained and the Camping Field is fully serviced with water points throughout the field. The Site is fully fenced off for total safety for all the young people who camp here. On site Activities are numerous with a permanent Campfire Circle, a Crate Stacking area, tree climbing area, Assault Course Orienteering, Back Woods area and many places to Hike both day and night within the forest park. The centre lends itself well to pioneering and there is pioneering timber available on site for use in these activities. Recently the Group has provided a new indoor centre to further enhance the Centre. This beautiful state of the art Natural Stone building houses a Shower block for both male and female campers, Toilets for both, a kitchen and a large multipurpose room with great views over the Campsite. This room is ideal for Training or indeed sleep overs. Also included in the centre is a fully kitted out Camping Equipment stores stocked with the latest camping tents and equipment. The gear which is available for rent for any group who requires it or indeed for international Groups who would like to travel light. By arrangement any international group need only jump on a flight with their Rucksacks and hire all the Camping gear on site to enable them to have a great Scout Camp. The 3rd Monaghan Scout Centre is equal distance between Dublin and Belfast and is an ideal base to explore both cities on day trips. Other day trips and activities can be arranged locally including Canoeing, Mountain hikes, Wind surfing, Horse riding and go karting to name a few. Get booking your weekend or week long camp or why not use it as one off your stopovers on your own wild adventure trip around Ireland! Important Update from 3rd Monaghan Scout Centre
Temporary Closure for Upgrade Works
We would like to let everyone know that 3rd Monaghan Scout Centre will be temporarily closed from 1st September 2026 to 1st January 2027 while we carry out important upgrade works across the centre.
We are taking this opportunity to improve our facilities for all groups, leaders and visitors. Works will include new drainage to the camping field, topsoiling and reseeding, car park kerbing, drainage and stoning, new solar panels on the building, new maintenance equipment, and a new robotic mower to help keep the camping field in great condition.
The hostel will reopen from 1st January 2027, and the camping field is planned to reopen from 1st April 2027.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while these improvements are completed. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the centre early next year and sharing the upgraded facilities with you all.
Bookings and enquiries can still be made by emailing [email protected]. As the season will be shorter, we encourage groups to book early to avoid disappointment.

What an achievement last weekend we had the Cub Scouts from the Carrickmacross Scout Group stayed at the campsite. They took on the challenge of Cycling from 3rd Monaghan Scout Centre all the way up the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway. They cycled the 30km from Kingscourt to Wilkinstown on what turned out to be a glorious weekend. They then done the return trip back that was another 30km making it a total of 60km cycled on the day. Back at the centre, dinner was cooked and they camped overnight. Well done to all the Cub Scouts and the scouters. Also staying in the centre last weekend were 7th Louth Costal Cub Scouts. What a weekend they had doing all sorts of great outdoor scout activities. Thanks to all the Scouters and Cub Scouts for choosing to stay with us.

Did you know that the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway is 30km long and it runs from Navan to Kingscourt. It is now open. This traffic free cycling and hiking route is a great amenity for any Scout group staying at the 3rd Monaghan Scout Centre. Also whats great, its only 1 km from the end of the Greenway to the Scout centre. So why not book a camping overnight and take on the Greenway or how about cycling the length of the Greenway staying overnight and then cycling back. We had one Group of Venture Scouts do this and by all accounts it was a great challenging event. For more details check out the link https://www.discoverboynevalley.ie/plan-your-visit/things-to-do/boyne-valley-lakelands-greenway Our camping fees are only €6 per person per night and also our indoor hostel accommodation is €12 per night. We are currently booking for stays in May, June and July. Get on your bike as dates are booking fast.
