⚽️ Kilworth Celtic U18 5 – 4 Mallow United U18 ⚽️

League Opener | Sunday, September 6th

Goalscorers:
• Kilworth Celtic: Ryan Whelan (13’, 37’, 87’ ⚽⚽⚽), Conor Lynch (3’), Killian Ball (40’)
• Mallow United: Open play (5’), Own Goal (44’), Open play (2nd Half), Header (2nd Half)

Kilworth Celtic U18 boys kicked off their league campaign at home against Mallow United in a thrilling nine-goal encounter. Having knocked Mallow out of the cup the previous week, Kilworth expected a tough, physical test from a side seeking revenge—and the match lived up to every expectation.

First Half

• 3’: Conor Lynch got Kilworth off to a flying start from a free kick, finishing smartly to put the hosts 1–0 up within three minutes.

• 5’: Mallow responded less than two minutes later, breaking through the defense and placing the ball low into the right-hand corner to equalize.

• 13’: Ryan Whelan reacted quickest to a spilled ball by the Mallow goalkeeper, tucking it into the right corner to restore the lead at 2–1.

• 37’: Killian Ball set up Whelan for his second of the afternoon to extend the advantage to 3–1.

• 40’: Ball turned goalscorer, slotting home his first of the season to make it 4–1.

• 44’: An unfortunate own goal just before the half-time whistle gave Mallow a lifeline, sending the sides into the break at 4–2.

Overall, Kilworth played some really smart football when in possession, and worked hard when without.

Second Half

Mallow United dominated early in the second half, pressing high and disrupting Kilworth’s passing play:

• Mallow’s left winger cut inside and struck a right-footed shot into the top right corner to pull it back to 4–3.

• Nine minutes later, Mallow completed the comeback when their centre-back headed in from a corner to level the score at 4–4.

• 87’: With Mallow holding the momentum, Kilworth produced a decisive moment late on. Danyl Pierce threaded a through-ball to Ryan Whelan, who finished calmly to secure his hat-trick and a 5–4 lead.

Kilworth held on through the closing minutes to secure all three points in a dramatic 5–4 victory.

Thanks to Mallow United for a sporting, physical game, and to the referee for officiating. Thanks also to Oaktree Financial Services as Match Ball Sponsor and McCarthy Insurance Group as jersey sponsor.

⚽️ KILWORTH CELTIC U11s | MATCH REPORT 🔴⚫️

Ringmahon Rangers 1–5 Kilworth Celtic

What a way for our U11s to begin competitive football! 👏👏

Kilworth Celtic U11s produced a superb performance in their first competitive game of the season, running out 5-1 winners away to Ringmahon Rangers.

Cillian Prendiville opened the scoring with a cracking finish into the top corner after a great assist from captain Oisin Kenneally. Cathal Walshe made it 2-0 with a brilliant finish from a tight angle after being set up by Cillian, before Oisin added the third with another superb finish from a tight angle following a great assist from Aidan Walsh. ⚽️

Kilworth went into half time 3-0 up after an excellent first half. The defence were outstanding, holding their line brilliantly and playing the offside trap to a tee. In goal, James Flynn was excellent, making some super saves and using his kick outs brilliantly to get Kilworth playing again quickly.

The midfield worked tirelessly up and down the pitch, with great passing and effort throughout, while the strikers played right on the offside line, creating plenty of chances and constantly making the goalkeeper work.

Declan Kenneally made it 4-0 with a fantastic individual goal and superb finish. Ringmahon pulled one back before Rhys Tobin completed the scoring after a brilliant run through midfield, dribbling past several players before squeezing the ball over the line.

A brilliant 5-1 victory and a fantastic start to competitive football. 👏👏

🏆 U18 LEAGUE CUP

Mallow Utd 1 – 4 Kilworth Celtic 🔴⚫

The U18s travelled to Mallow today to take on the home side in our first competitive game of the season.

Short players due to injuries and holidays, the lads available put in a great shift and came away with a very impressive result. 💪

We found ourselves 1 down on the 30th min but responded brilliantly to go in at half time 2-1 up, with the goals coming from Danyl Pierce and Ryan Whelan.

The second half saw us score 2 more goals through Ryan Whelan to complete his hat trick and see us into the next round. ⚽⚽⚽

Super effort from everyone involved, where all of the squad showed great discipline against a strong Mallow side and lots of quality when the opportunity came our way.

👏 Thanks to Mallow and the ref for a high quality sporting match.

🔜 Next up is Mallow again at home next Sunday in our league opener in Division 1 of the CYL.

Well done lads! 🔴⚫

Kilworth Celtic FC U13 – Opening Game Report ⚽️🔴⚫️

Kilworth Celtic 1 – 1 Kinsale

Our opening game against Kinsale at home was much anticipated by the boys, and it absolutely lived up to the excitement. From the first whistle, it was clear this was going to be a serious battle. Kinsale were strong in the tackle, confident on the ball, and quick to close down space. Kilworth took a little time to adjust, but once they settled, the match turned into a brilliant blow‑for‑blow contest.

The first half was full of tackles, blocks, and clever passing from both sides, finishing 0–0 with nothing between the teams.

The second half opened up even more. Kilworth created plenty of chances with Tom A, Noah, Tiger, Thomas, and Jamie all getting shots or dangerous passes away while Kinsale threatened on the break. Eventually, Kinsale broke the deadlock with a sharp counterattack in the 70th minute.

But Kilworth didn’t drop the heads. They pushed harder, kept passing, kept tackling, and kept believing. The Kinsale keeper pulled off some brilliant saves, but he couldn’t stop the moment that mattered:

A Tom Aherne inswinger curled into the box… the ball broke loose… Noah touched to James Tiger who was prowling close by duly smashing it to the roof of the net. A huge roar from the sideline and a fully deserved equaliser for Celtic.

*Every Player Shone Today*

Shane Sw - brave and steady in goal, keeping Kilworth in it early and pulling off two brilliant late saves.
Luke Mc – positionally excellent and physical when it counted.
Ben B – made vital interceptions and stayed calm under pressure.
Dylan K – kept superb shape at the back, letting nothing bounce through.
James H – rock‑solid with key tackles and a standout “Van Dyke‑style” power header at a crucial moment.
Thomas O’S, Tom A, Oisin R, huge work rate in midfield, winning tackles and linking play with smart passing.
Jamie E was very threatening on the wing and worked hard defensively.
Noah Dunne was tireless up front and out wide; nearly scored a wonder‑goal late on after beating three players and the keeper, only to be denied by the crossbar.
Odhran O’D - powerful when introduced, with strong tackles and smart interceptions.
Bobby H adapted instantly to the intensity and played lovely one‑twos with his midfield partners.
Cillian McL & Shayne C – excellent hold‑up play. Cillian’s chasing created turnovers, while Shayne’s layoffs were clever and dangerous.
James Hegarty produced the Magic Moment with a brilliant defensive header, clearing a powerful cross under pressure.

Superb stuff guys and well done to the coaching team.
