Kilmaley came from behind to claim a hard-earned one-point victory over neighbours Inagh/Kilnamona in their Clare Cup quarter-final on a wet evening in Lisbiggeen.
The home side made a bright start with early scores from Michael O’Neill and Joe Carmody, but Inagh/Kilnamona responded to keep the sides level through the opening quarter. A free from Tom O’Rourke and a fine score from Dylan Keane Hayes added to our tally, but the visitors struck for the game’s only goal at the 18 minute mark to move into the lead.
Kilmaley responded well Tom O’Rourke, Michael O’Neill and Colm Killeen all finding the target during a strong spell before half-time. However, Inagh/Kilnamona finished the half strongly with four points in the closing minutes to take a 1-8 to 0-9 advantage into the break.
With the rain continuing to make conditions difficult, every score had to be earned. Michael O’Neill opened the second-half scoring before Tom O’Rourke added six second half frees as Kilmaley gradually gained momentum.
Holding a slender lead entering injury time, Inagh/Kilnamona landed a late free to reduce the margin to a single point, but Kilmaley dug deep and saw out the closing moments to secure the win and a place in the Clare Cup semi-final.
Final Score:
Kilmaley 0-16 Inagh/Kilnamona 1-12
