It is with deep sadness that everyone at Dungarvan Cycling Club extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, teammates, and all at Fermoy Cycling Club following the tragic loss of their young rider Shane O'Brien yesterday.

At just 16 years of age, he had already made a lasting impression on many within the cycling community. He was admired through the cycling community, was so polite, mature and personable beyond his years not to mention fiercely competitive and destined to follow his big brother's footsteps into the world of professional cycling. He was also very well known to our DCC members, having raced at several of our youth events over the years taking many podiums in his stride.

No words can ease the pain of such a devastating loss. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, his clubmates, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him at this terrible time.

Saturday Spin: 10 made an early start heading for Ballymac with two turning off before the Half Way. Through Newcastle and into Clonmel along the banks of the Suir. Leaving Clonmel and heading for Carrick we enjoyed a tailwind, a passing tractor was quickly latched onto hence all the PRs on route to Carrick and the coffee stop. On to Killmeadon and a right turn towards Bonmahon and home. 130 kilometres completed on a sunny midsummer s day

G5 Sunday spin June 14th. G5 turned out in force to support Danny and Tony’s fundraiser in Ballymacarbry Community Centre. They took to the spinning bikes for a warm up before heading out. The navigator was a local whose knowledge of the back roads in the Waterford/Tipperary promised an intriguing route. Turning left in Ballymac it was immediately into the hills of South Tipperary. On through Newcastle and Ballybacon, taking a right which brought the group to Lady’s Abbey and Ardfinnan. Here a member had her first puncture, swiftly repaired it was on to Ballyboy West and Parson’s Green before stopping for a very welcome coffee in Clogheen. Returning to the bikes, puncture number two was discovered, front wheel this time, reinflated, all was well through Goatenbridge but a replacement tube was needed in Newcastle. Back through Fourmilewater and on to the Community Centre where the 24 hour fundraiser had finished. Danny was looking very well for someone who spent so long on a spinning bike and was very appreciative of the tremendous support from the club and the local community. It was a perfect morning for cycling and the route was fantastic, special thanks to Mike and a warm welcome to John who joined us for the day. 51km with 480m climbing.

On a beautiful Sunday morning just three set out on the planned route. Low attendance due to many and various commitments at this time of year. In any case what was lacked in quantity was compensated for with quality🤣🤣🤣.
We trailed around some of the coast road and back via Mahon Bridge for the first climb of the day up to and over the Mama road.
Then onto Ballymacarbery, where we had a well earned tea/coffee (which ever you prefer) break.
Here we could witness and support the magnificent efforts of our colleagues who cycled 24 hours not stop to raise funds for a very worthy cause. Well done, Danny and Tony.
After enjoying some fantastic home baking, it was back on the bikes to complete the route.

It was a lovely sunny morning in June as Group 4 had 7 cyclists out for the Sunday spin. We did a loop out the N72 to Richmond House, turned for Kilmolash and the crossed the N72 heading for Ballymacarbry to cheer on Danny & Tony as they were finishing their 24 hour Spinathon in aid of Cycle against Su***de. A steady pace through Modeligo amd Millstreet with some shelter from the wind. We welcomed Brendan to the group cycling with us for the first time. Finally we descended into Ballymacarbry Community Centre glad to see Danny & Tony still going strong with the finish line in sight. We enjoyed teas, coffees and a great variety of goodies for the Coffee morning. Photo taken with the lads we were soon back on the bikes heading on the initial climb on the Clonmel / Dungarvan road. Some of the group took other routes home to enjoy a bit mote of the sunshine. We finally a descended to Colligan and back to Dungarvan for a spin of just over 70Km.
Massive congratulations Danny & Tony - a huge achievement and a great fundraiser for Cycle against Su***de. And well done also to your families who supported you both and the community in Ballymacarbry.
