🌍 FROM KILLORGLIN TO WORLD CHAMPION 🥇

On Friday in Amsterdam, Zoe Hyde became a World Champion, winning gold for Ireland in the Women’s Double Sculls alongside Mags Cremen of Lee RC.

But Zoe’s story started long before the Irish vest and international podiums. It started right here, on the River Laune.

Zoe first took up rowing at Killorglin Rowing Club at just 13 years of age. After stepping away from the sport during university, she returned to the club, rediscovered her love for rowing and began a journey that would ultimately take her to the Olympic Games – and now to the top of the world.

Her achievement is an incredibly proud moment for everyone at Killorglin Rowing Club, but it is also a powerful reminder of what a strong junior pathway at the Club can make possible.

From a small community club in Kerry have come three Olympians – Aileen Crowley, Monika Dukarska and Zoe Hyde.

Behind those achievements are years of junior coaching, volunteers, parents and countless hours on the river, creating an environment where young people are given the opportunity to discover just how far they can go.

For every junior currently learning to row at Killorglin, Zoe’s journey carries a simple message:

YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE. WHY NOT HERE?
..and perhaps the next journey is about to begin!!

🚣 Killorglin Rowing Club welcomes boys and girls aged 12 and over who would like to try rowing. No previous experience is necessary – just a willingness to give it a go.

🇮🇪 INTERNATIONAL SELECTION 🇮🇪

DUKARSKA TO REPRESENT IRELAND AT EUROPEAN BEACH SPRINT & COASTAL ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Killorglin Rowing Club is delighted to congratulate Monika Dukarska on her selection to represent Ireland at the 2026 European Rowing Coastal & Beach Sprint Championships in La Línea de la Concepción, Spain, this September.

Monika has been selected to compete across both championship disciplines, representing Ireland in:

🌊 Coastal Endurance – Women’s Solo (CW1x)
⚡ Beach Sprints – Mixed Double (CMix2x) alongside Thomas Sheridan of Wicklow Rowing Club.

The selection marks another significant milestone in Monika’s international career and an exciting return to the Irish team just nine months after the birth of her daughter Maggie. No stranger to the international coastal stage, she brings considerable experience to the championships, having previously won European silver in the coastal solo and bronze in the Beach Sprint solo, as well as World Championship gold in both the women’s solo and mixed double.

Her selection in Beach Sprints is particularly exciting as the fast-growing discipline continues its journey towards its Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028.

A huge congratulations to Monika, and to Thomas Sheridan and Wicklow Rowing Club on his selection. We wish the crew every success as they prepare to pull on the green jersey in Spain! 🇮🇪💪

FEXCO BACKS THE FUTURE OF KILLORGLIN ROWING CLUB 💙🤍

Killorglin Rowing Club is delighted to announce a new three-year partnership with Fexco, supporting the club across the 2026–2028 rowing seasons.

This multi-year commitment comes at an important time for our club as we work towards upgrading our facilities, progressing key infrastructure projects and securing a strong and sustainable future for rowing in Killorglin.

Fexco’s support will help us build momentum behind these ambitions, strengthening our ability to pursue further grant funding, community support and investment as we work to turn our development plans into reality.

For a community club like ours, having the backing of a company with such strong roots in Killorglin is particularly meaningful. It is an investment not only in our facilities, but in the future generations of athletes, volunteers and families who will call Killorglin Rowing Club home.

Killorglin Women Return to Wicklow with a Proud Championship Tradition

This Sunday, the 23rd of August, Killorglin Rowing Club will return to Wicklow for the Swift Racing Endurance Senior Championship, with three Women's Open crews taking to the water.

Killorglin will contest the Women's Open C1X, C2X and C4X+.

Monika Dukarska will race the C1X, while Fia O'Gorman and Maria Murphy will form the C2X. The C4X+ crew will comprise Fia O'Gorman, Monika Dukarska, Maria Murphy and Freya Doyle, with Celine Kavanagh taking on the coxswain role.

For Killorglin, however, Sunday's racing represents more than simply another championship.

The club has built an extraordinary record in Irish Offshore Championship racing, particularly in the women's events.

The Women's Coxed Quad title has belonged to Killorglin for eight consecutive championships, from 2018 through 2025. It is a record of consistency and excellence that reflects the strength of women's rowing within the club.

The club's record in the Women's Solo is equally impressive. Killorglin won the title in 2017 and then again every year from 2019 through 2025, giving the club eight Women's Solo national titles in nine championships.

There has also been sustained success in the Women's Double Scull, with Killorglin winning national titles in four consecutive championships from 2019 to 2022.

This remarkable record has been built through the commitment of many Killorglin rowers over the years. Each championship crew has contributed to a tradition that today's athletes now have the opportunity to continue.

As the three crews head to Wicklow on Sunday, they will carry that history with them - but also the chance to create something new.

We wish Monika, Fia, Maria, Freya and Celine (and coach Mike of course!) the very best of luck as they represent Killorglin on championship day.

National Trials - Beach Sprints 🌊⛱️

This Saturday, Monika Dukarska will represent Killorglin Rowing Club at the final Beach Sprint trial in Portnoo, Co. Donegal, where she will be aiming to secure her place on the Irish team.

Beach Sprint Rowing is the newest Olympic discipline of rowing and will make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games. Combining a beach sprint, a rapid boat launch, a high-speed slalom-style rowing course around buoys, and a final sprint across the sand, it demands power, speed, agility and exceptional boat-handling skills.

This trial forms an important part of the Rowing Ireland selection process for the upcoming European Beach Sprint Championships in La Línea de la Concepción, Spain.

We are incredibly proud to see Monika competing at the highest level and representing Killorglin Rowing Club. Everyone at the club wishes her the very best of luck this weekend.

Killorglin Rowing Club Takes Another Step Towards a Greener Future

Killorglin Rowing Club is delighted to announce the successful installation of a new solar photovoltaic (PV) system at our clubhouse, marking another important milestone in the club's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

This project has been made possible through the generous support of the SE Systems Community Fund, together with the incredible fundraising efforts of our members, volunteers and the wider local community. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who contributed towards making this investment a reality.

As a club based on the banks of the River Laune, the natural environment is at the heart of everything we do. The river is not only our training venue but also one of our community's greatest natural assets. We recognise our responsibility to protect and preserve this environment for future generations of rowers and river users.

The installation of solar panels is one of many initiatives the club has undertaken to reduce our environmental impact. By generating clean, renewable electricity, we will significantly reduce our carbon footprint while lowering our long-term energy costs. The savings generated will be reinvested directly back into the club, helping us continue to develop facilities, support our athletes and provide opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy rowing.

This investment forms part of Killorglin Rowing Club's wider vision of becoming an increasingly sustainable and environmentally conscious organisation. Alongside improving our facilities and infrastructure, we remain committed to adopting greener practices wherever possible and ensuring that environmental stewardship is embedded in everything we do.

Community support has always been the driving force behind our club's success, and this project is another example of what can be achieved when local organisations, volunteers and supporters work together towards a common goal.

Home Internationals Results Round-Up

Killorglin Rowing Club was proudly represented on the international stage last weekend as Joe and Aoibhe Horan donned the green jersey for Ireland at the 2026 Home International Rowing Regatta, held at the London Regatta Centre.

Joe lined up in the Men's Junior Quad, racing in a composite Irish crew alongside athletes from Lee Valley, Lee and Shandon Rowing Clubs. In the 2,000m event, the crew produced a determined performance to finish fourth in a time of 7:07, crossing the line just six seconds behind race winners Wales in a highly competitive contest.

Aoibhe took her place in the Women's Senior Eight, joining athletes from UCC, University of Galway and Cork Boat Club. The Irish crew battled hard throughout the race to secure third place behind Scotland and England, delivering another strong performance on the international stage.

The afternoon programme saw crews return to the water for the exciting 500m sprint races. Joe's Junior Quad showed impressive pace to claim the bronze medal, finishing third behind Wales and Scotland in one of the closest races of the day. Remarkably, just 0.56 seconds separated first and third place, underlining the intensity of the competition. Aoibhe and the Women's Senior Eight crossed the line fourth in a time of 1:50.3, with England taking victory in the sprint event.

Representing Ireland is a tremendous honour and a testament to the dedication, commitment and hard work shown by both athletes throughout the season. Competing against the best rowers from England, Scotland and Wales provided invaluable experience and marks another important milestone in their rowing journeys.

Congratulations to Joe and Aoibhe on their international performances. Everyone at Killorglin Rowing Club is immensely proud of their achievements, and we look forward to following their continued success in the years ahead.

💙🤍 Horan Family Double Honour at 2026 Home International Rowing Regatta 💙🤍

It is a proud day for both the Horan family and Killorglin Rowing Club as current club rower Joe Horan and club alumna Aoibhe Horan travel to England to represent Ireland at the 2026 Home International Rowing Regatta (HIRR).

The regatta will take place on Saturday, 25th July, at the London Regatta Centre, Royal Albert Docks, England. Hosted by England (British Rowing), the annual event brings together the top crews from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with athletes competing across Junior and Senior categories.

Joe has been selected to represent Ireland in the Men's Junior Quad, rowing as part of a composite crew alongside athletes from Lee Valley Rowing Club, Lee Rowing Club and Shandon Boat Club. Aoibhe will line up in the Women's Senior Eight, joining fellow Irish internationals from University College Cork, University of Galway and Cork Boat Club.

Having both siblings selected to wear the green jersey on the same day is a tremendous achievement for the Horan family and a source of immense pride for everyone at Killorglin Rowing Club. Joe continues to represent the club at junior level, while Aoibhe remains a valued alumna whose success continues to inspire the next generation of Killorglin rowers. Aoibhe has recently won the Women's Intermediate 8+ at the recent Irish Senior Rowing Championships.

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Niamh Horan-Williams.

Killorglin Rowing Club extends its deepest sympathies to Niamh's family, friends, and all who knew and loved her. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time.

Funeral Arrangements:
Reposing: O'Shea's Funeral Home, Killarney, on Sunday, 28 June, from 3:30pm to 6:00pm, followed by removal to St. Mary's Cathedral.
Requiem Mass: Monday at 10:30am in St. Mary's Cathedral, Killarney.
Burial: Afterwards in Aghadoe Lawn Cemetery.
