Hi All

I know we haven't posted anything for some time now but it's great to see over the last year so many people making good use of the park. As a committee we try every year to make small improvement by applying for the Amenity Grant given out by Kilkenny County Council. Last year we planted the hedge at the fence side of the park. This year we have applied to put a self closing gate at the entrance of the park to hopefully stop any stray dogs gaining access without been with there owner. Please see photo of one of the new rubbish bins put in place today and have another one witch will be up within the next few days. We purchased these from park funds and hopefully the will be used. I would still encourage where possible that people take home rubbish. Once again as a committee it great to see these facilities been put to such use and thanks for all your support over the years to make this possible.

Hi All

Guidelines for the reopening of playgrounds.

📌📌📌PLAYGROUNDS REOPENING :

🔶Kilkenny County Council will reopen 28 of the 29 playgrounds in its charge today, this is following an inspection and the er****on of relevant signage to advise parents and guardians of the new requirements when visiting playgrounds.
🔶the playground Blackthorn Hills in Ferrybank that will remain closed will be reopened once maintenance works are completed to its soft surfacing.
🔶Some of the playgrounds have been delivered in conjunction with local communities and all are insured by the Council and inspected on a weekly basis.
🔶Parents and guardians will be required to supervise children at all times when using the playgrounds and to ensure public health advice on social distancing and hygiene.
🔶Parents/guardians when visiting playgrounds with their children are required to bring their own hand sanitiser for the cleaning of their children’s hands before, at regular intervals during and after use of the playground equipment.
🔶Parents must also ensure physical distancing between children.
🔶Parents/guardians are asked to be mindful to limit the duration of their visit to the playground out of courtesy to others who wish to use the facility.

Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr. Peter ‘Chap, Cleere commented:
“I am delighted that all of our playgrounds across the county will reopen this week. This is an extremely positive development and another sure sign that we are gradually getting back to normality. It will be great to hear the sound of kids having fun coming from our playgrounds again. I urge parents and guardians to respect the Government advice when visiting playgrounds to ensure in particular the safety of children.”

Hi All
The committee of Goresbridge Community Park would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Fogarty family on the passing of their father Billy Fogarty. Billy has been a great supporter of this committee from the very start, he sold tickets to raise funds all down through the years and supported and encouraged everything we were trying to achieve. With Margaret been a committee member and the Fogarty family been strong supporters to us down through the years, as a mark of respect we will be putting the community park draw off for another week. Date and location to be announced early next week. Billy may you Rest In Peace, you will be missed by all.

Hi All
Just to let you know that it was decided at a recent committee meeting that we are moving the draw date out by one week. The draw will now take place on Saturday 9th November after mass in Ionad Dara. This was requested by our ticket sellers so they can get around to everyone. Please support this draw as it is the only fundraiser we do each year and it is to pay back the outstanding loan. Thanks for your continued support.

Hi All

Every year we apply to Kilkenny Country Council under the Amenity Grant scheme which is a grant to make small changes/improvements to the Community Park. This year we were awarded €900 for an application to do the following. Retaining wall along the bank of the walking/running track as seen in photos. This will keep any stones/overgrowth from coming out onto the walkway and it makes this end of the park look better.we will be putting in a small outdoor library just in the corner where you enter the park with some seats attached to the retaining wall for all to sit and read our relax. We hope to have this all completed within the nexw week.(will upload photos when completed) The €900 covered almost all the materials other than the RSJ steel to hold the timbers which was sponsored by Keenan/Alltech. All labour was done voluntarily by the committee members so thanks to all. We will continue making small changes every year under this grant scheme to make these facilities a place whete everyone can use and enjoy. Thanks for your continued support.

Hi All
Tickets on sale now for the Community Park Draw. As this draw is the only fundraising, we do each year we would be grateful for your support. The purpose of this draw is to pay back the outstanding loan. The park is now a little over 2 years open and we are making little improvements each year as we go along. Tickets are on sale from the usual ticket sellers so please support this draw. Thanks for your continued support.

Hi All

Big thanks to everyone who helped out yesterday evening with the clean up around the park. We are planning to go back at it again next Wednesday 24th July at 8 o clock. we got the path where overgrown cleaned up last night and will continue around the rest of the park next week. We only stay for the hour so if anyone around to help out it would be much appropriated. It was looking good last night as the FÁS workers had the grass cut and strummed along the fens area. Thanks again for all your continued support.

Hi All

The committee are planning on doing some maintenance work in the part over the next few weeks as the weeds are starting to get a little out of hand. This Wednesday 17th July at 8 o clock weather permitting we are planning to do some weeding. If anyone has a spare hour and would like to help in any way that would be great. We will plane a few nights over the coming weeks so any help anyone could give would be much appreciated. If you have any tools please bring them along and if not, your hands will work just as good.

Hi All

New addition to the park installed today.
It has been our plan since we started to add some outdoor exercise equipment into the park and with money left over from the Town & Villages grant we were able to install these two pieces. This was the grant that both us and GRD teamed up to get funding to do the entrance of the Park and the surfacing and lights at the river. Thanks to Kilkenny County Council for allowing us to spend the remaining funds left to purchase this equipment. Thanks also to GRD who worked with us on this project and put up the matching funding required to allow us to make this possible. It’s great to work with other groups who have a shared interest in making our village a better place to live. We would hope to work on similar project going forward to make Goresbridge a better place to live. It will be the intention of this committee to add more of this type of equipment going forward. Happy exercising.
