We're delighted to announce a new coach joining the team at Fortitude.

is very excited to get started.

She has been very busy getting all her qualifications and building up experience up to this point.

She is very professional and passionate about pre/postnatal training.

She is looking forward to passing on her knowledge and experience to other expecting/new mothers.

I'm personally very happy to have a female coach on the team as she will have a different perspective from different experiences we can't go through as men.

We're growing as a team and always looking for the next stage we can move to.

👉I specialise in bridging the gap from where physiotherapy ends to helping you get back to full strength and fitness.

👉This is Kevin's story, who I've been working with recently.

"I've been working with Colin for several months after recovering from a major back problem, which was completely debilitating for over two years.

My goal is to strengthen and improve stability to prevent injuries, so Colin's plan has taken into account the injury, contributing factors, and what needs to be done in the right order.

He tailors the plan each month to successively build on my strengths and work on my weaknesses.

This compliments stability work i do with pilates, so I gain more benefits from both activities.

has come from back surgery back to playing the sport he loves.

Anyone who has gone through back surgery knows the struggles after to trust your body again, especially to do dynamic movements.

It's a process that takes time and normally comes with small setbacks along the way.

David works closely with , from physiotherapy through setbacks to pilates and clearing him to exercise again.

We have worked together to improve his strength, power, and confidence in his back to withstand the demands of his sport.

David is very consistent, listens to his body, and actively works for improvement.

Here's what he said about this season while doing our program,

"Since the start of the season, I have had no back issue with the continue work I've been doing with Colin and the pilates classes from able bodies. My back and core feel very strong and continue to improve through the year, having more flexibility and my bodys durability, giving me more confidence to keep pushing my limits.

Great work David, you're showing people surgery doesn't have to be the end of your performance goals.

Strength through adversity is the fortitude way.

Now I'm not here to kill all your joy 😆

But...

The reality is that the weekends really count towards your results.

If you follow , you'll hear him say this a lot, and he's right.

Most people try to live on air & lettuce during the week.

The weekend comes, and it's a Fry for breakfast, out for lunch, a takeaway, and 2 bottles of wine that night.

Then wondering why you're not getting the results you want 🤷‍♂️

How about not restricting and punishing yourself on a daily basis, eating foods you enjoy in moderate quantities.

Then, when it comes to the weekend, have a plan for the day.

Oh, I'm heading for a burger and beers tonight, I'm gonna eat a light breakfast and have a high protein lunch 😋

Maybe try to implement even 50% of the things you do during the week, so it's not day/night from weekdays to weekends.

This will really make a huge difference to your results in the longer term, and it develops good habits to keep them results.

Using exercise just as a method to burn calories is missing 90% of the actual benefits it can bring.

What this creates is a chase for intensity.

It makes it very hard to create any lasting changes to strength, muscle mass, and aerobic fitness.

You'll end up weak, burned out, and exercise will become punishment for what you've eaten.

This is a very bad cycle to get into.

You might get to the gym 2-4 hours per week.

This isn't enough time to try and make up for sedentary behaviour and a poor diet, even if you wanted to, so why are you using it for that?

Control your calorie balance outside the gym through activity and eating to match your goals.

In the gym train to create the change, you want to meet your goals.

That could be an increase in muscle mass, improving your aerobic fitness, becoming more athletic, etc..

I train and train all my clients in the mindset of longer-term progress.

It's not about how much we can sweat in this individual session.

It's how much positive change can we create in the next few weeks/months by aligning our training to our goals.

This is the key for long-term success and a healthier mindset 🧠

I know, I know you can't talk about post Christmas fitness without fat loss.

But..... here me out.

Instead of restricting everything, i.e., no chocolate for January, no crisps or whatever it is, you decide you can't have as punishment for over indulgence.

Why not add something positive?

When goals start on a negative, they normally don't last in the long run.

Add a better habit that isn't punishment.

👉Aim to be in bed 30 minutes earlier.

👉Add a 15-minute morning walk.

👉Drink a pint of water when you wake up.

👉Give yourself a performance goal in the gym, i.e., hit a new squat, PB.

Positive goals > punishment based goals 🙌

🎉 Happy New Year 🎉

I was reflecting back on 2022 today, and a lot has happened in that time.

As a gym, we grew to two coaches getting .ie to come on board, which has been brilliant.

We're really starting to get community atmosphere, which I have always wanted to create.

We have had our first gym get together of everyone in the one place at the one time.

We have welcomed a lot of new members and, most importantly, kept a lot of existing members, too.

On a personal note, 2022 has been very exciting, welcoming our son Seán 💙.

Being a small business owner with a young family is less than ideal, and I couldn't do it without ❤️.

She keeps all the wheels turning when I have to have singular focus.

Moving into 2023, we have new goals, the main one being to reach more people.

I have a vision of growing Fortitude online to have people training with us from all over.

This won't be easy and is out of my normal wheelhouse with the tech stuff, but I know we'll make it work and provide a great product.

Thank you to everyone for training with us, recommending us to others, interacting with our content, and supporting us.

Let's chase them goals together in 2023 ❤️ 💪

🔥Take control by getting started🔥

➡️It's hard to explain the change in other aspects of your life that happens when you start challenging yourself physically with training.

➡️It's kind of special, you feel this sense of energy and motivation doing normal things that you didn't have before.

➡️The feeling of getting better and improving the more you train changes your mindset to think this is possible with other things you do.

➡️A feeling of physical strength and fitness in your body is one of the best feelings in the world because it can't be bought, it can't be shortcut, it can't be faked.

➡️In a world where we want everything to happen right now the reward of having to really put work and effort into something is a challenge we all need.

➡️We think of training in terms of muscle mass, body fat %'s too much, it's so much more than that.

➡️What this looks like for everyone will be very different, you do what you can with your current situation.

➡️Any step forward from where you're now is a positive step that will create positive change.

➡️Just start at something, anything, and let that ball start rolling down the hill rather than pushing it up all the time.

🔥What makes us different🔥

There are multiple gym options close to us and a lot of them are cheaper, so why choose us?

Now if you know me I'm not great at selling myself, I don't over hype or talk things up, I prefer just to train you and let you decide.

While doing this I forget that most of the people even close to the gym haven't been here so that doesn't always work great 😄.

The biggest difference between us and other gyms around is the PERSONAL element.

Even if you do a coached based class the majority of the time you slot into the program rather than the program being designed for you.

I'm a big believer in training the person standing in front of me.

We coach you through every single movement.

We adjust and change the program based around multiple factors, I.e. previous injuries, experience level, goals, how you're feeling on that particular day etc..

We have A LOT of experience, between me and Philly we've over 20 years experience, we've coached every single type of person 1000's of times, I believe this is worth it's weight in gold and can't be learned in a book.

When you join Fortitude you will meet people that will become friends, we will know you, know your kids names, take a genuine interest in your life and how to help you make changes to improve your health.

My guarantee for people is you'll leave the gym feeling better than you did walking in, you'll also always be getting closer to a better health status in the long run but most of all you'll have fun and enjoy yourself.

You'll never wear headphones in the gym, you'll never go through a session without chatting with people, you'll never go through a session without laughing.
