Our seniors had a good win against Newbridge Hotspurs last night at home in a friendly to tie them over with a break from the league this weekend. Great to see the lads win although only being a friendly. Best on the day for Sallins were Philip and Ben.

St Anthony’s Youths VS Sallins Celtic

The game started with Antos having most of the ball and Sallins defending well. In the 23’ Sallins got a corner which wasn’t fully cleared by Antos and was met by Alex who scored a brilliant volley into the net. Sallins saw very little of the ball until we mounted a counter attack down the right hand side with Philip playing a great ball in behind for Ben to finish off in the 30’ and make it 2-0 to Sallins.

The second half started the same as the first with Antos dominating possession but couldn’t quite find the final ball to get themselves back into the game. Sallins defended well and in the 66’ got rewarded when a long ball over the top found Brian who squared the ball to Ruairi, who got his 3rd goal in 3 games. After the 3rd goal, Sallins defended brilliantly but in the 78’, Antos with some quick 1:2 passing found the space down the left hand side with their winger cutting in and making it 3-1. The game then became very intense and Sallins were under lots of pressure with it finally resulting in a penalty to Antos. Up stepped Antos no.11 whose penalty was saved. Very tense ending to the game.

Final score: 1-3

Best on the day for Sallins were Ben, Cillian, Ciaran and James.

Sallins Celtic VS Castle Villa
22/05 7:15pm

Sallins went into this game searching for their first win of the season after a very strong performance against Bush Celtic on Sunday. The game started with Sallins dominating the game. Sallins were caught out by Villa and awarded a penalty. The Villa man stepped up but hit the post. In the 20’ Villa got themselves a free kick which they delivered into the box with the Villa man rising highest and scoring. Sallins responded in the 24’ with a set piece of their own, a brilliant corner whipped in which was met by Peter who made no mistake in getting his first goal to make it 1-1. A couple of minutes later, Ruairi was brought down and awarded a penalty. Up stepped Dylan and unfortunately hit the post. In the 37’ Dylan finally got his goal which was worth well by himself to find the space to slot the ball away into the far corner. Short after in the 40’, Ruairi finished off an excellent move down the wing with a first time finish to the near post, beating the keeper, giving Sallins the lead with 3-1 in the first half.

The second half began with Villa being the more dominant team. After a great defensive display from Sallins, Villa were finally given the reward when they were awarded another penalty, this time making no mistake and smashing the ball into the top corner and sending the Sallins keeper the wrong way. In the 91’ Villa’s hard work again paid off when they were awarded a free kick which was delivered into the box only to be parried by the keeper and the Villa player reacting first to the loose ball and making it 3-3. Moments later, in the 93’, Sallins broke on a counter attack with some great individual play on the wing, leading to a square ball across the box for Brian to tap home the winner, and give Sallins their first 3 points of the season.

Final Score: 4-3

Best on the day for Sallins were Ruairi and Brian.

Sallins continued their 100% record with a win over a spirited Kildare Town side. Goal-scorers for Sallins were Violet Moloney, Emma Mooney, Aoife DeFaoite, Lia Reilly, Ava Haugh and Emily Sharma. Special mentions for woman of the match Violet Moloney with 6 goals, Emma Mooney with a hatrick and young Ava Haugh and new signing Emily Sharma for their first senior goals for the club.
