Calling all bored kids and teens at home this summer 👋🏻

Our Summer Youth Gym terms are now open at Freedom Fitness, running through July and August.

These coach-led sessions are perfect for kids, tweens and teens who would benefit from moving more, getting stronger, building confidence, learning new skills, and having something positive and structured to do over the summer holidays.

They are not competitive, not intimidating, and not a case of being thrown into a gym and left to figure it out.

Every session is age appropriate, supportive, and designed to help young people feel more confident in their own bodies.

We have:

Kids Gym, age 8 to 10
Wednesdays at 3.30pm

Tweens Gym, age 11 to 12
Mondays at 4.30pm

Teens Gym, secondary school age
One or two sessions per week available

Our youth gym sessions are brilliant for:

- Building strength and fitness
- Improving confidence and self-esteem
- Learning how to use gym equipment safely
- Developing coordination, balance and movement skills
- Supporting mental, physical and social health
- Giving them something fun and positive to do over the summer

Spaces are limited across all groups.

You can find out more or book through our website below:

Babas & Barbells is back for a new 6-week term next week, and we have a few spaces available for new mamas and babas 🩷🩵

There is 1 space in our Tuesday and Friday group, and 3 spaces in our Monday and Thursday group.

This photo sums up the class perfectly.

Mamas doing loaded carries.
Kettlebells being swung.
Babies watching their mammies lift heavy things and being their strong mamas.

And everyone working to their own pace, their own ability, and their own stage of postnatal recovery.

No comparing. No judging.

Just proper coaching, mammy camaraderie, and the kind of conversations you only get in a room full of new mums.

The chats can go from what colour your baby’s poo is now that they’ve tasted blueberries, to the dreaded email from work with a maternity leave return date.

There are laughs, moans, baby feeds, nappy changes, little wins, big lifts, and plenty of “same here” moments.

Because motherhood is brilliant, but it is also hard. And you were never meant to do it completely on your own.

Babas & Barbells is our Postnatal Strength & Fitness programme for new and repeat mums who want to rebuild strength, confidence, core and pelvic floor function, fitness, and resilience after pregnancy and birth.

Everything is programmed to your level.

That might mean starting gently and rebuilding from the inside out.

It might mean progressing your strength work.

It might mean working towards running, jumping, or getting back to the gym.

It might mean simply getting out of the house, moving your body, and feeling like yourself again for an hour.

Wherever you are, we meet you there.

👶 Babas always welcome

I’ve had a bit of a brain fart.

Our next Women’s Only Beginner’s Course is supposed to start next Wednesday (3rd June), and I only just realised I forgot to properly tell anyone about it 😅

Excellent marketing, Karen. Truly elite stuff.

So here’s the story.

We’re giving it until tomorrow night.

If a few women book in by then, we’ll go ahead with the June course.

If not, we’ll cancel it, likely take a break for July, and the next one will probably be August or September, depending on demand.

So, if you’ve been meaning to join us, now is the time.

Here are the details you need:

- Starts next Wednesday
- Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm
- 4 weeks
- 6 women max
- Designed for nervous female beginners

Small group, plenty of coaching, no intimidation, and no being left wondering what on earth you’re supposed to be doing.

If June suited you, and you’ve been thinking about it for a while, consider this your sign.

I've always said that, if or when I have more time and a second Freedom Fitness location, I’d love to have a dedicated gym just for our Teens and Juniors.

That’s how much I believe in it.

Because this stuff is so, so good for them. Physically, mentally, socially, all of it.

See you in the gym,

This is Niall, who coaches the Wednesday class on our Women’s Only Beginner’s Course, with two of the lovely women from our April edition.

Here’s what Niall had to say about why he loves coaching beginners:

“I genuinely love working with beginners. There’s something very rewarding about helping people discover, or sometimes rediscover, just how strong and capable their bodies really are. Watching their confidence build session by session never gets old.

Learning the fundamentals isn’t easy either. The exercises we coach are basic human movements, but they’re also surprisingly complex. When it clicks, the sense of achievement is huge, and it carries far beyond the gym.

Joining a new gym can feel intimidating. But once you’ve gotten a few classes under your belt, you quickly realise it’s a lot less daunting than you first imagined. By the end of the 4 weeks, it’s always the same story, more confidence, more strength, and a real sense of pride in what you’ve accomplished.”

That really does sum up the course perfectly.

This course is for nervous female beginners who want to learn how to strength train properly in a supportive, welcoming, and non intimidating environment.

No being flung into the deep end.
No pressure to “keep up”.
No feeling like everyone else knows what they’re doing except you.

Just good coaching, a small group, and a chance to build confidence properly from the ground up.

Our next Women’s Only Beginner’s Course starts this Wednesday, May 6th, and there are now just 3 spots left.

If you’ve been thinking about it, now would be a very good time to get yourself booked in:

In a world that puts far too much focus on how girls look, we want to offer something different.

At our Teens Gym, the focus is on what their bodies can do.

Getting stronger.
Learning new skills.
Trying hard things.
Building confidence.
Feeling capable.

Because real confidence does not usually come first.

It is built through doing.

It grows when girls try something challenging, stick with it, learn from it, and realise, “I can do this.”

That might mean learning how to lift safely for the first time.
It might mean adding a little more weight to the bar.
It might mean giving something a go even when they are unsure of themselves.
It might mean showing up again next week and doing it all over again.

That is where confidence comes from.

Not from looking a certain way.
Not from being perfect.
Not from always feeling fearless.

But from action. Practice. Effort. Progress.

Strength training can be such a powerful tool for teen girls because it helps shift the focus away from appearance and onto capability.

It teaches them to trust their bodies.
It helps them feel strong and competent.
It gives them skills for life.
It shows them that the gym can be a place where they belong.

At Freedom Fitness, our Teens Gym is coach-led, supportive, and focused on helping teens learn how to train properly in a safe and encouraging environment.

We have loved watching teen girls grow in confidence in our gym over the years (since 2018!), not because they changed how they looked, but because they discovered what they were capable of.

That is what this is all about.

If you would like your teen to build strength, confidence, and real gym skills in a supportive environment, the May-June term of our Teens Gym is open for bookings now (spaces are limited).

This is what we love to see in the Teens Gym.

Not carnage. Not chaos. Not random workouts thrown together to tire them out.

Actual coaching.

Learning how to lift safely.
Learning how to spot each other properly.
Learning how to use gym equipment with confidence.
Learning how to train in a way that will actually stand to them long term.

Because at some point, these teens will grow up, fly the nest, and more than likely head off to a gym by themselves (or at least we hope they do!).

And when they do, we want them to know what they’re doing.

We want them to understand technique.
We want them to respect the equipment.
We want them to know how to train safely.
We want them to feel confident enough to walk into a gym and not feel completely lost.

Our Teens Gym is designed for young people who want to get stronger, build confidence, and learn proper gym skills in a safe, supportive, coach-led environment.

They also have exclusive use of the gym during their sessions, so there are no adult classes running at the same time.

This gives them space, autonomy, and a real sense that the gym is theirs for that hour.

Our May-June term of the Teens Gym is now open for booking and we have limited spaces available!

If you’d like your teen to learn how to train properly, safely, and confidently, now is a great time to get them started!

Still nervous about joining a gym?

Then this course was built for you.

Our next Women’s Only Beginner’s Course starts next Wednesday, 6th May, and it is designed specifically for women who feel nervous, awkward, unsure, or a bit “I haven’t a clue what I’m doing here”.

Which, by the way, is most people at the start.

You do not need to get fitter first.
You do not need to know how to lift weights.
You do not need to wait until you feel confident.

That is literally what the course is for.

Over 4 weeks, we will coach you through the basics of strength training in a small, supportive group of just 6 women, so you can learn properly, ask questions, and build confidence without feeling lost in the middle of a busy gym.

No big intimidating gym floor.
No being left to figure it out yourself.
No pretending you know what you’re doing while secretly panicking inside.

Just proper coaching, a small group, and a really good place to start.

Here’s what you need to know:

💪 Women’s Only Beginner’s Course
📅 Starts Wednesday 6th May
⏰ Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm
📍 Freedom Fitness, Kilcoole
👥 Limited to just 6 women
🏋️ 4 weeks, 8 coached sessions

You might not feel ready.
That’s the point of this course.
Take the first step through the door, and we promise to take care of you from there.

A HEWAGE shout out to these 3 wonderful women, Kayla, Jackie, and Tara.

Between them, there is nearly 15 years of Freedom Fitness membership in this one photo, which is a bit nuts when you stop and think about it.

That is nearly 15 years of showing up. Nearly 15 years of deadlifts, tough sessions, good laughs, progress, setbacks, restarts, consistency, and keeping on truckin'.

People do not stay in a gym for that long because they are always wildly motivated or because life is always calm and convenient.

They stay because they keep finding a way to come back, keep showing up, and keep putting one foot in front of the other, even when life is life-ing.

That is what I admire so much about these women.

Strong, steady, and no nonsense. Just getting on with it, for years.

As a coach and gym owner, it is a real privilege and honour to have members like this in the gym. I do not take that lightly at all.

So here is your well deserved shout out, ladies. Kayla, Jackie, and Tara, we are very extremely lucky, and super proud, to have you as Freedom Fitness members!

Nearly 15 years of freedom through fitness right there 💙

See you in the gym,
- Karen & Co.

If you’ve been a long time follower, you might recall I started sharing more about our core values last year.

We last talked about them back in August 2025 (I know, I know 😂), and since then nothing has changed… except we’ve doubled down on all of them (and I've popped out a baby 😂).

We’ve already covered:

1️⃣ Empowerment and Growth
2️⃣ Enjoyment
3️⃣ Inclusivity and Diversity
4️⃣ Personalisation

And now this one. The one that massively underpins everything else.

S U S T A I N A B I L I T Y

The best gym program, run by the best gym in the world, is useless if it only works when life is quiet, motivation is high, and everything goes to plan.

That’s not real life.

Real life is busy. It’s messy. It’s school runs, work stress, bad sleep, holidays, aches and pains, niggles, injuries, and weeks where you’re doing well to show up at all.

That’s exactly why we coach the way we do.

We don’t expect perfection. We don’t expect you to train five days a week, eat perfectly, and have endless energy.

We help you build something that fits into your life. Something you can come back to, even after a tough week. Something that doesn’t fall apart the minute things get busy.

That might look like training twice a week instead of three. It might look like adjusting a session on the fly because your energy is on the floor. It might look like showing up, doing what you can, having a bop to the music, and calling that a win.

Because it is.

This is about building habits that last. Strength that stays with you. A routine that supports your life.

The gym should (and can) be a positive force to enhance your life. Not something that takes over and becomes your life.

That’s what we mean by sustainability.

When you get that right, everything else starts to fall into place.

See you in the sustainable gym,
– Karen & Co.
