People usually turn to Yoga and Pilates for overlapping, but slightly different, reasons. Both are low-impact, mind–body practices, but each brings its own strengths.
Why do yoga?
Yoga combines movement, breathing, and mindfulness.
Key benefits:
* Flexibility & mobility: Regular practice loosens tight muscles and improves range of motion.
* Stress reduction: Breathing techniques and meditation help calm the nervous system.
* Mental clarity: Many people use yoga to manage anxiety and improve focus.
* Whole-body strength: Especially in styles like Power Yoga or Yoga for Runners.
* Balance & posture: Helps align the body and prevent injuries.
Think of yoga as: movement + mindfulness + relaxation
Why do Pilates?
Pilates focuses more on controlled movement and core strength.
Key benefits:
* Strong core: Targets deep abdominal and back muscles (great for stability).
* Posture improvement: Especially helpful if you sit a lot.
* Injury prevention & rehab: Often recommended by physiotherapists.
* Muscle tone: Builds long, lean muscle without bulk.
* Precision & control: Emphasises technique and alignment.
Think of Pilates as: strength + control + alignment
