Moyne Villa kicked off their season on a beautiful bright morning in Craughwell and they started in emphatic style tearing open the Craughwell defense and playing the opening half almost entirety in the Craughwell half. Cillian opened the scoring after only 3 minutes with a neat finish after latching onto a through ball. He doubles the lead after a long ball from Jarlath was controlled well by Dara who’s shot was saved by the keeper. Dara collected the rebound and square to Cillian for a simple tap in.

Villa earned a penalty on 22 minutes after Cillian was tripped as he rounded the keeper. He took the spot lick himself and was unlucky to see a well struck shot hit the outside of the post.
Villa were on fire and the passing and dominance of the play was incredible. We had the ball in the net for a third time thanks to Jarlath but it was ruled out for offside, which seemed like a very harsh call.

The second half continued to be played on Villas terms and Cillian got his hat trick shortly after halftime. Craughwell pull one back and we’re continuing to battle hard before substitute Jamie C got on the score sheet shortly before having to retire injured in an impressive cameo. Dara got a second assist with a nice cross to Ronan with a tidy finish, before Dara completed the scoring with a shot across the keeper to finish in the bottom left corner.

Our U13 lads opened their season with a local derby vs Corrib Celtic.

Villa started the game strongly. George and Ethan controlled play in the middle of the park. Sending out balls to the wingers Dylan and Jack and setting up chances for our strikers.
Ethan nearly opened the scoreline with a great shot being saved by the keeper. His second effort was just wide. The Corrib goalie was called into action again with a shot from George. Jack came close with his effort just hitting the crossbar.

Cillian sat in front of our defenders breaking up play and passing forward.
Our back line of Daniel, Jay, Martin and Eoin were calm and collected throughout the game, sweeping away any danger.

At halftime Tommy our goalie had to come off with an injury. Jay bravely agreed to take his place after a super first half performance in defence.

The second half saw more chances narrowly missing the back of the net. The Corrib goalie was kept busy with a double save from George’s header and then half volley saved on the line. Martin also had a strong effort from outside the box saved.

The full time whistle blew and we were unlucky not to have scored and taken home the full three points. Credit to Corrib Celtic’s defence and goalie.

A fantastic team performance with every boy putting in a great shift but man of the match goes to Daniel in defence. He was always in the right place at the right time and calmly dealt with any pressure that came his way.

Best of luck to club coach Niall Meenaghan who lines our for the Galway Masters against Cork in the All Ireland final this afternoon. Lots of other Moyne Villa connections with former players & dads of current players all involved. Enjoy the day!
