Bray Wanderers 3-1 CK United
Bray Wanderers booked their place in the next round of the LOI Academy WU17 Cup with a superb second half comeback against CK United on Saturday afternoon.
CK started strongly and attacked with pace from the opening whistle, while Bray worked hard to create chances through midfield and attack. As the half progressed CK gained momentum and took the lead in the 32nd minute with a well taken goal, leaving Bray trailing 1-0 at half time.
The second half saw a transformed Bray side emerge, starting at a much higher tempo and taking control of possession and territory.
In the 55th minute Anna Morrissey smartly took a quick throw in quickly, with Ellie O’Brien holding the ball up well and then laying it off to Anna who took a shot, just going wide.
As the clock ticked down, the momentum clearly swung in Bray’s favour, though CK continued to defend stubbornly.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 78th as we saw some really strong interplay between Grace Leonard and Emily O’Driscoll resulted in the ball breaking in midfield to Síofra O’Farrell who played an inch perfect ball over the top to the oncoming Lauren Coburn, who deftly chipped the ball over the CK goalie to make it 1-1.
Bray sensed victory and continued to press. In the 86th minute, another sublime delivery from Emily O’Driscoll found Ava Clarke racing through on goal. One-on-one with the goalkeeper, Ava calmly side-footed her finish off the inside of the post and into the net to put Bray 2-1 ahead.
With time running out Bray continued to press hard and won a corner in the 88th minute. Annalily Farrelly looped in a swinging ball and Anna Malone rose the highest to score a bullet header to make it 3-1.
With the final whistle blowing Bray head to the next round.
