Croghan Athletics Club We provide opportunities for juvenile and senior athletes from North Wexford.

Our athletes participate in events at all levels including county, provincial and national track and field events, Parkrun 5KM, 10KM, half marathon and beyond!

🇮🇪 BRITISH & IRISH JUNIOR MOUNTAIN RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS 🇮🇪

Croghan A.C. are incredibly proud to see Siún Byrne and Ruby Gallagher O’Reilly selected to represent Ireland in the U18 team at the British & Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships this Saturday in Newcastle, Co. Down. 🇮🇪🏔️
The Mournes will provide a truly world-class setting for mountain running, with challenging climbs, fast forest tracks, and steep descents. The U18 and U20 races promise to be an exceptional showcase of some of the best junior mountain-running talent from across Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
Siún and Ruby earned their places on the Irish U18 team after an outstanding performance at the Irish Mountain Running Trials in Glenbarrow, Co. Laois, where they both successfully secured selection.
The girls faced a demanding and picturesque 6.4km course, featuring everything mountain running can throw at you — tough climbs, forest trails, fast sections and steep descents. Their performances were rewarded with the fantastic news that they had both qualified to wear the green of Ireland for the very first time. 🇮🇪💚
This is a huge achievement for both girls and a wonderful reward for their many years of dedication, hard work and training.
It is also a particularly proud moment for Croghan A.C., as Siún and Ruby become the first female athletes from our club to represent their country. A club that proudly brings together athletes from South Wicklow and North Wexford, this is a fantastic milestone in our club's history. 💜💙
A special mention must go to their long-standing coach Michàel Byrne, who has worked with Siún and Ruby since they were young children. His commitment, guidance and belief in the girls over all those years has played a huge part in helping them reach this incredible level.
It is a fitting tribute to the years of coaching and dedication that have gone into their development. 👏🏃‍♀️🏔️
We would also like to sincerely thank Owen Connelly and the IMRA association for their continued support, guidance and encouragement to the girls since they qualified for the championship team. It is hugely appreciated.
From the trails of Glenbarrow to the mountains of the Mournes, Siún and Ruby have already created a very special chapter in the history of Croghan A.C.
Enjoy every minute of it, girls. You have earned your place on that start line. 🇮🇪💚

A huge thank you to Des McCarthy for all his help, support and dedication to our Croghan AC Juveniles over the past number of years.

Des has generously shared his passion for athletics, knowledge and expertise, particularly in the throwing disciplines, with our young athletes. His dedication, encouragement and wonderful way with the children have been truly appreciated by our athletes, coaches and parents alike.

As you and your wife prepare to move to the UK to be closer to family, we wish you both every happiness in this next chapter.

We have had such a great week last week of achievements that each deserves its own post. Next up Martin O’Connor and Finn Meenagh completed The Lost Sheep 70.3 Triathlon in Kenmare at the weekend. A very tough course with lots of hills but they powered through with a finish time of 5.39 (Martin) and 6.03 (Finn). Well done guys 👍💪🏃🚴‍♂️🏊‍♂️ 🔵🟣

On Wednesday, the final round of the imra leinster league was held at Belmont Demense in Wicklow and this event doubled up as the end of league BBQ and prize giving. Having already completed 7 races, Pat Foley didn't need to run and volunteered as a course Marshall. The finishing positions were totted up and final league positions were decided for 2026. Pat finished 7th overall and received the prize for first M50
