Croghan round up 14/6/26

Last weekend Finn Meenagh and his Hamburg based brother Cathal completed the Hamburg Ironman, their first of many no doubt. Finn finished in a time of 12hrs and 9 mins despite a crash 60km into the cycle. Finn, and 700 others, were victims to the sabotage of the event which saw metal shards being spread on the cycle track causing dangerous punctures and crashes. Thankfully, despite many cuts and bruises, Finn jumped back on the bike and completed the next 120 km cycle with just 2 gears! He finished off the Ironman with a Marathon in 4 hrs 15 mins. His brother Cathal finished the Ironman in 12hrs 45 mins. Well done to the Meenagh brothers πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸš΄πŸŠπŸΌ

Mr Oil Wexford Senior Road Championship 2026 πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸŒ§οΈ

A wet Friday night in Ferns couldn’t dampen the spirits at the 2026 Mr Oil Senior Road Championships, hosted by SBR AC on 5th June. Despite the rain, the atmosphere was buzzing and Croghan AC turned out in force with some brilliant running across both races.

*Women’s 5km – Silver for Croghan Ladies! πŸ₯ˆ*
Our ladies battled the elements and a stacked field to claim 2nd team overall with 41 points.

Huge run from *Sonia Redmond* who led the Croghan charge, finishing 4th in 18:18. Right behind her, *Abbey Wolohan* cracked the top 10 with 20:05 for 10th place.

Backing them up brilliantly: *Joanne NΓ MhathΓΊna* 12th 21:07, *Tara Kinsella* 15th 21:28, *Suzanne Keane* 18th 21:45, *Kate Breen* 26th 23:19, and *Aoife O’Callaghan* 33rd 25:33.

*Female Team Result:*
1. Slaney Olympic 32pts | *2. Croghan AC 41pts* | 3. Kilmore 49pts

*Men’s 10km – Croghan Men Take Bronze πŸ₯‰*
The men’s race was deep and fast, but Croghan packed well to secure 3rd team on 43 points.

*Sean Hehir* led the way with a super 5th place in 34:02, with *Aaron Doyle* 8th 34:51 and *Chris Quaid* 12th 36:17 completing our top 3 scorers.

Great strength in depth from the squad too: Kevin Morris 18th 38:20, Naoki Nayati 19th 38:34, William Keogh 21st 38:52, Brian Maher 22nd 38:59, Andrew Dowse 24th 39:01, John Sinnott 25th 39:10, Damien Tobin 30th 39:42, Ken Laffan 36th 41:42, Brian Kelly 40th 42:42, Pat Murray 48th 50:34, Ger McGrath 49th 50:36.

*Male Team Result:*
1. United Striders 32pts | 2. Slaney Olympic 38pts | *3. Croghan AC 43pts*

*Well Done All πŸ’ͺ*
Rain or shine, Ferns always delivers a brilliant night of racing. Big thanks to SBR AC for hosting and to all the marshals/volunteers who stood out in the wet to keep us safe.

Massive well done to every Croghan singlet on the road, two team podiums and loads of strong individual runs to be proud of.

🌟 Leinster Combined Events – Carlow 🌟
We had three athletes competing at the Leinster Combined Events in Carlow:

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Kiva Gallagher O'Reilly – U12 Quadrathlon

All three athletes performed brilliantly across their events, showing great determination, commitment, and skill throughout the day. Combined events require athletes to compete across a range of disciplines, and Robbie, Kiva, and Dani rose to the challenge in every event.

A message of warning..
One of our female runners was running out the courtown road this evening when she was approached by a male in a white van which had a just eat logo on it. The man asked her to get in and when she refused he followed her.
Please be careful when running everyone and report any behaviour like this to the Garda. Stay safe πŸ™πŸƒ
