Gorey RFC Senior Ladies delivered a determined performance to secure a 31โ10 victory over New Ross RFC in a fiercely contested match.
Gorey started on the back foot after an early error handed possession to New Ross, who applied strong pressure and eventually opened the scoring to lead 5โ0. Gorey responded with composure, and a brilliant interception from Ailbhe Byrne saw her race in for a try, converted by Alex Byrne, giving Gorey a 7โ5 halftime lead.
The second half saw Gorey take control. A high tackle from New Ross resulted in a yellow card and penalty try, pushing the lead to 14โ5. Sustained pressure then led to Blaithnaid Kenny crossing out wide, followed shortly by a second interception try from Ailbhe Byrne to extend the advantage to 24โ5.
Dominant work at the breakdown helped Gorey maintain momentum, with Robyn Cousins adding another try under the posts, converted by Alex Byrne to make it 31โ5. New Ross claimed a late consolation try, but Gorey comfortably saw out the game.
