Creggs RFC Stags finished off their season in style last Saturday with a trip to the Dexcom Stadium in Galway. This was a milestone for our club's mini inclusion camp since Feb '24.
The camp meets every Saturday morning for children and teens with varying needs and disabilities. They enjoy fun games and activities sparking interest in rugby, exercise and most importantly lasting friendships between the kids, parents and coaches alike.
Connacht Rugby acknowledged this by inviting the group to their new and impressive facility along with 70 other kids from similar clubs throughout Connacht. Their indoor astro pitch was a perfect safe, enclosed and spacious environment for our team of Stags to show off their various skills of catching, kicking, throwing, spinning, striking and even making bubbles!
Our group of 10 children with parents, grandparents, siblings, carers, classmates and coaches left Creggs Rugby Grounds at 10am on the bus with great anticipation and excitement for the day ahead.
After the activities described Connacht Rugby provided food, refreshment and a much sought after ice cream.
To cap it off they got to meet the Connacht mascot Eddie the Eagle and were presented with a participation medal for the day. What a great day out thanks to Connacht Rugby. We hope to be back next year.
Special mention to the kids that have participated in the camp on various Saturdays but couldn't attend on Saturday especially coach Adam Barnes and son@@ Eoghan who have been an integral part to the success of the camp.
We also thank Micheál Glennon for his ongoing work within the club and his enthusiasm and organisation as always. And finally to Pat O'Gorman & Ger Dowd for making this very special camp and day happen.
