the olympic boxing club was founded in the under the name of the holy family1960's and was later renamed in 1988 as the olympic boxing club under the guidance of michael 'chick' gillen who was once an accomplished boxer himself at the time olympic b.c struggled to find a permanent building to train but in the year 2000 we moved to our current and permanent base on the seamus quirke road.the clubs

biggest highlight of the clubs history to date was back in 1996 when local lad francie barrett went on to repersent his country in 1996 atlanta olympic games,since then the club has gone from strength to strength wining countless county,provincial and national titles under guidance of head coach john mongan who also has the honour of being a 1 star qualified europaen referee and judge and has also officiated in many parts of Europe to date. we have also many members of the olympic b.c to go on on represent there country on many away tournaments all over the world including on world and european level and also domestic level in the 4 nation and 6 nation tournaments and also round robin events,some of our bigest high include 1996 olympian francie barrett,world junior bronze meadilist budapest 2000 coleman barrett,european school boy sliver medalist james cleary so long may it last olympic b.c sucess.

Olympic BC duo Eddie Ward and John Paul Ward returned home from Scotland with a Bronze medal a piece from the U15’s 4 Nations.

Eddie Ward was beaten by a good English lad, Both lads having their moments in a good contested bout. Great learning experience!

John Paul Ward was beaten by Scotland in a highly questionable decision that we felt that John Paul did more than enough in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. All learning.

Well done lads, You both boxed brilliantly in your first international with Team Irelands boxers, We move on and get ready for the next one.

Last session tonight for Eddie Ward and John Paul Ward before they head off to Motherwell, Scotland on Friday with Team Ireland’s under 15’s squad for the 4 Nations Championships.

Both lads are in fantastic form and put in a tough camp and are looking razor sharp.

The lads received a presentation tonight on behalf of Olympic Boxing Club and we wish them and Team Ireland the very best of luck, Enjoy lads!

Excellent day of boxing today at Olympic BC with 30 exhibition bouts on display across 2 rings with each boxers getting fantastic rounds.

Thanks to Athlone BC, Ballyhaunis BC and Celtic Eagles BC Galway for travelling in today, Well done lads!

We go again on Saturday the Saturday the 20th of June were we welcoming a team from Esker BC Dublin to Galway.

Olympic BC duo Eddie Ward and John Paul Ward completed their last training session today with Team Ireland U15 squad in Monkstown BC Dublin ahead of the 4 Nations championships next weekend.

Both lads has put in a massive camp with club and their team Ireland team mates and looking forward to represent their country with pride next weekend in Scotland.

Action packed exhibition this Sunday from 12noon at Olympic BC Galway.

This Sunday we host boxers from Athlone BC, Ballyhaunis BC and Celtic Eagles BC Galway for a busy afternoon’s boxing featuring County, Provincial, National Champions and Irish Internationals from Schools to Senior level.

Come down and support and see our local champions!

Doors open 11.30am, Start from 12noon.

Busy day for Olympic BC boxers.

Today we had 2 boxers compete in the West of Ireland novice box cup in Connemara.

Raymond O’Brien performed excellently well and was crowned champion today in his first bout for the club.

Owen Ward had 3 good rounds of an exhibition after a long day.

Well done lads, Tomorrow we have 4 boxers in the competition.

Today we had Eddie Ward and John Paul Ward attend High Performance training with National U15 Squad ahead of the 4 Nations championships in 2 weeks in Scotland.

We wrapped up the day with Kieran McDonagh having an excellent exhibition bout in Olympic BC Mullingar.

Remembering the legend that is Olympic Boxing Club’s founder Chick Gillen on his 6th year anniversary.

Chick was the driving force behind Olympic BC and oversaw hundreds of young boxers that he trained and took under his wing, No more so than 1996 Olympian Francis Barrett.

Rest in peace Chick 🙏🏼🔴🔵⚪️

Next Sunday the 17th of May, Olympic BC hosts Camac BC Dublin and a Galway select for a day of Exhibition boxing stacked with County, Provincial, National and European Champions!

Olympic BC will also be running exhibition shows the Saturdays of May/June in the run up to box cups and cadet championships.

Any clubs interested get in touch both home and away which ever dates suits.

Official confirmation this week that club members both Eddie Ward and John Paul Ward has been named on Team Irelands U15’s Squad to represent their country in the 4 Nations Championships in Scotland this June.

Eddie a 3xNational Champion and John Paul a 2xNational Champion both came through tough National Championships and 4 Nations qualifiers bouts to secure their places on Team Ireland’s squad.

Congrats lads, Well done and best of luck in Scotland, Go make it happen and Enjoy!
