๐ŸŒŸ Fiona Murtagh takes on the 2025 European Rowing Championships! ๐Ÿ›ถ

We are thrilled to announce that Fiona Murtagh, a University of Galway MBA alumna and member of the University of Galway Rowing Club, has been selected to represent Ireland in the Womenโ€™s Singles (W1x) at the 2025 European Rowing Championships, taking place from May 29th to June 1st in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. This will be Fionaโ€™s first time racing in this category at an international regatta, marking a new chapter in the Olympic cycle.

Fionaโ€™s career in rowing has been marked by numerous milestones and historic achievements. She was part of the Womenโ€™s Four that secured a historic bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, marking Irelandโ€™s first-ever Olympic medal in womenโ€™s rowing. Fiona began her rowing journey in 2009 at Galway Rowing Club, following in the footsteps of her twin brother, Alan, and later earned a rowing scholarship to Fordham University.

Some key highlights of Fionaโ€™s career:
๐Ÿฅ‰ Bronze in the Four at the 2020 European Rowing Championships
๐Ÿฅˆ Silver at the same event the following year
๐Ÿ… In 2023, Fiona and Aifric Keogh finished 4th at the World Rowing Championships, securing Olympic qualification

Fiona became a two-time Olympian at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she and Aifric Keogh finished 8th in the Womenโ€™s Pair event.

As Fiona prepares for the 2025 European Rowing Championships, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and wish her the best of luck. Her dedication, both as an athlete and an academic, continues to inspire us all.
