Update:
.After almost seven months in hospital, Brenda is finally home with her family. This is a milestone that at times felt a long way off, and while Brenda's recovery journey continues, being back home surrounded by Peter and her children is something they have all been looking forward to for a very long time. Thanks to the incredible support received, the essential modifications needed to make Brenda's home wheelchair accessible and suitable for her ongoing care were completed in time to allow her return home. Over the past number of weeks, communities across Mayo have come together to organise a series of fundraising events in support of Brenda and her family. The generosity, kindness and hard work shown has been nothing short of incredible. Monster Auction in Ballycroy – €12,870.13 raised Foxford 5K Fun Run – €8,007 raised (Recorded on the GoFundMe page as two separate donations of €692 and €7,315) Turlough Wheelers Fundraiser – €3,280 raised Benefit Dance for Brenda – €2,480 raised A Night for Brenda – €1,616 raised Whist Drive in Patten's Bar, Achill – €1,000 raised Together, these six events raised an incredible €29,253.13 for Brenda and her family. We know there are many people working behind the scenes and countless others who have donated, bought tickets, sponsored prizes, volunteered their time and offered support in so many different ways. The kindness shown to Brenda and her family over the past number of months has been truly overwhelming. Every fundraiser, every donation, every message of support and every act of kindness has helped make a difference. While Brenda is delighted to be home, her journey is far from over. She continues to face significant challenges and will require ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, specialist equipment and support. Although reaching home is a huge milestone, there are still considerable costs associated with Brenda's ongoing care and recovery, and we will continue our fundraising efforts to help support Brenda and her family on the road ahead. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Brenda, Peter and the children. Your support has helped make this homecoming possible and has given the family strength, hope and comfort during the most difficult time of their lives. Thank you all.
