Luck just wasn't on our side yesterday in the Summer Cup Finals at Nenagh LTC! 😔

XD5 came up against a really tough Youghal side, and after four absorbing matches, the sides just couldn't be separated. Up stepped Pete & Sinead for one final superset, and after the lead changed hands multiple times, it was still all square at 6 games apiece. A deciding tie-break to 7 again flip-flopped one way and then the other, with the Cork side just coming out on top. Excellent play on the day from Dan, Sinead, Pete & captain Aine. 🔥💪

MD4's opponents were also Youghal. After the opening two matches, the Cork side held the advantage, and unfortunately we suffered another blow when Jack picked up a bad hamstring injury near the end of his match. However, he admirably took to the court again to allow the second round of matches to take place, with Ennis ultimately going down 3-1. A real never-say-die attitude on the day from Noel, Jack, Liam & captain Barry. 🫂🎾

More than 50 children took part in the Ennis Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club Junior Tennis Championships over the past week, culminating in a fun-filled Finals Day on Saturday with a series of singles finals and an action-packed doubles tournament! 🔥🎾

In the U8 competition, Aodhla O’Neill won the girls’ title, beating Abhainn Cunniffe, while Charlie Gallagher claimed the boys’ title with victory over Idris Derguech. In the U10s, Abbie Flanagan defeated Kate O’Neill in the girls’ final, while Ilyes Derguech beat Rhian O’Connor to take the boys’ title. 🚀

Willow Feeley won the U12 girls’ title, defeating Nina Nic Oscair. Finn Gleeson and Jasper Badenhorst contested both the U12 and U14 boys’ finals and, after more than three hours of tennis between the two matches, honours were shared! Jasper won the U12 title 7-5, while Finn came out on top in two closely fought sets in the U14 final, 7-6, 7-5. 🔥

In the U14 girls’ final, Emma Gleeson defeated Áine Crowley to take the title, while James O’Connell was crowned U16 boys’ champion, with Lonan Feeley finishing as runner-up. 💪

The week-long championships were kindly sponsored by The Ennis Bookshop, whose support for the event was greatly appreciated by the club. 👏
