A message from Ruth, David's wife..Whilst I haven’t yet had the chance to go online and properly look through the GoFundMe page you have all so generously donated to in support of David’s recovery, I want to express my deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you.
The kindness, generosity, and quiet support happening behind the scenes have meant more to us than I can ever truly put into words. Knowing that David’s Jiu Jitsu family has rallied around him during this incredibly difficult time has been such a source of strength.
As many of you know, David suffered a seizure caused by a brain tumour, and the surgery to remove it sadly resulted in a stroke. We are currently awaiting further results and a detailed recovery and rehabilitation plan, which will include speech and language therapy to help him regain his ability to speak, read, and write properly again. It’s going to be a challenging road, but your support reminds us that we are not walking it alone.
One of the things David keeps asking me is whether he will be able to return to Jiu Jitsu. That question alone shows just how much you all mean to him and how important the club is in his life. The thought of getting back on the mats one day is already giving him something positive to focus on.
As a small first step, while we wait for more answers, I’ve used some of the donated funds to buy him a 3,000-piece Lego set to help keep his mind active and his hands busy. It feels like a gentle but hopeful way to begin rebuilding — piece by piece — while we wait for the next stage of his recovery plan.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your generosity, your encouragement, and your continued support. It truly means the world to us both.
