This is one we’re very excited about at Clare Motor Club! Our own Sinead Canny will be tackling the famous Donegal stages this year alongside James Cullen, who’ll be behind the wheel of the iconic pink Sierra Cosworth.

They recently featured on a Krunching Gears podcast. It’s definitely worth a listen! 🚗💨

It is with a deeply heavy heart that everyone at Clare Motorclub learned of the passing of a true gentleman and Irish rallying legend, Kevin Barrett.

Kevin was much more than just a competitor to the Club; he was a massive part of the history of the Clare Stages Rally and a pillar of the entire rallying community. Kevin loved competing in Clare, and he often told us it was one of his favorite events on the calendar.

His connection to Clare went back a long way; he actually started his rallying journey right here at the 1988 Clare Stages in a Mk2 Es**rt.

In later years, Kevin brought immense excitement to our local stages in his iconic Subaru Impreza WRC. We have attached a lovely photo below of Kevin and co-driver Sean Mullally pushing hard through the crossroads above Ruan village.

We will always cherish the memories of him piloting that car through the Clare roads, securing brilliant podium finishes in 2011, 2015, and 2017. Who could forget the 2012 rally, when mechanical trouble threatened to end his weekend, but Kevin’s trademark grit and determination saw him nurse the car home to a fantastic 4th place finish.

Beyond his incredible talent behind the wheel, through his backing with Triton Showers, he championed national rallying, but he always kept his feet firmly on the ground. He always had a warm smile and a kind word for our club members, the hard-working marshals, and the fans standing on the ditches.

One of our absolute favorite memories will always be the 2018 Clare Stages Rally. It turned into a historic family affair, with Kevin, his son Paul, his brother Francis, and his nephew Ian all taking to the start line. It perfectly summed up what rallying meant to Kevin - family, friendship, and community.

We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Paul, the Barrett family, and Kevin's many friends throughout the motorsport world.

Rest in peace, Kevin. The stages of Clare will not be the same without you, but your legacy here will live on forever. 🏁

Clare Motorclub Youth Academy Takes on Watergrasshill!

The Clare Motor Club Youth Academy was out in full force this past weekend for a massive double-header at Watergrasshill!

Dealing with the Tillotson Racing , IAME, and ROTAX Karting Ireland Championship rounds, plus a high-stakes O Plate final on Sunday evening, our drivers faced everything from technical tracks to crazy changeable weather conditions.

Here is how our academy stars performed:

T4 Bambino

Daire Fitzgibbon: A phenomenal weekend, taking P1 in the Final! He was pipped at the line by a fraction of a second in the O Plate final to take a brilliant 2nd.

Ollie Conneely: Showed incredible grit in a weekend-long battle, securing impressive 4th and 5th place finishes.

T4 Mini

Billy Greene: Absolutely outstanding! Billy dominated the field to take P1 in BOTH Finals.

Culann McMahon: Stayed consistent in a hotly contested category to bring home 5th and 6th.

Oisin O’Sullivan: Put on a masterclass in the wet conditions, driving excellently to finish 6th and 8th.

T4 Junior

Jack Conneely: Produced one of the "drives of the weekend," showing massive pace to finish 2nd in both finals!

Doireann McMahon: Battled hard against tricky tyre choices in the changing weather, finishing 17th and 22nd.

X30 Junior & T4 Senior

James Nolan (X30): Secured a solid 12th place finish, though unfortunately, engine trouble forced him out of the O Plate final.

Kayla O’Sullivan (T4 Senior): Put her head down and battled through the pack to finish 17th.

Behind the Scenes

Success isn't just about the drivers! A huge shoutout to Daniel Grigor, who was busy marshalling and looking after the Paddock, and Sadbh McMahon, who was hard at work "on the tools" keeping the karts running.

A massive well done to all the kids, parents, and support crews. Clare Motor Club was exceptionally well represented!
