Na Fianna got their Division 1 league campaign up and running with a hard-earned and fully deserved seven-point win over Moynalvey in this Round 5 clash on Bank Holiday Monday.
Final Score
Na Fianna 2-14
Moynalvey 0-13
This was a solid performance by the Na Fianna men who largely controlled the pace of the game. They also showed good character whenever Moynalvey found a purple patch, and finished the game strongly to give them their first 2 points in the league
Na Fianna made a confident start and settled quickly into the game, building an early lead with a patient attack and solid defensive structure, which led to many turnovers. That early dominance saw Na Fianna open up a six-point gap before Moynalvey registered their first score midway through the half. While the home side did respond with a few late points, Na Fianna maintained a three-point cushion at the break.
Half-Time: Na Fianna 0-7, Moynalvey 0-4
Moynalvey came out with renewed energy in the second half and managed to draw level on a number of occasions, but crucially, Na Fianna never relinquished the lead. Each time the sides were pegged back, there was a calm and measured response
In the forwards, Cormac Rafferty was influential throughout, contributing important scores, while Dan Queeney showed composure from placed balls and open play, including a well-taken penalty that proved a key moment in the game.
As the game entered the final quarter, Na Fianna’s fitness and decision-making began to shine through. The team finished strongly, outscoring Moynalvey 1-5 to 0-1 in the closing stages to put real daylight between the sides.
A special mention goes to Ă“isĂn Bright, who delivered an excellent performance from wing back and capped it with 1-2, including a well-taken goal in added time to seal the victory.
It was also fantastic to see Ethan Devine back in action, marking his return after a long absence since 2025 — a welcome boost for the squad. Likewise, Sam Jordan’s return was a big positive following his recent involvement with the Meath Under 20s, bringing added energy and quality to the team.
Overall, this was a very encouraging display and a first win on the board, with plenty to build on heading into the next round v Dunboyne
