We are saddened to hear of the passing of Shirley McAleer.

Shirley was the beloved mother of our player Paul McAleer, and aunt to players Padraig O'Rourke, Cian O'Rourke, and John Kelly.

On behalf of everyone at the club, we extend our heartfelt and sincere condolences to the entire McAleer family, especially her children Melissa, Michael, Tracey, Brendan, and Paul, at this very difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Shirley's family and friends.

May she rest in peace. 🕊️

Sonny Grimes Memorial Cup

We got underway in the Sonny Grimes Memorial Cup this week against the Phoenix and, despite some very close battles throughout the night, the Hawks managed to come out on top and secure our place in the quarter finals against the Northend Bullies.

A quirky format for this competition with every game played as a straight best of one.

Game 1
Captain Podge stepped up first and shared the oche with Jonny Knobloch. Podge struggled to find his double and Jonny punished him for it, sending the heavy underdogs into an early 1-0 lead.

Game 2
John Kelly vs Joanne O’Shaughnessy

Vice Captain John Kelly wasted no time restoring order for the Hawks. Joanne played well throughout but John proved just too strong and levelled things up.

Game 3
Ian Rooney vs Burt Reynolds

Another very closely fought battle but once again it was the underdogs who struck, showing absolutely no fear against the Division 1 double winners.

Game 4
Darren Ludlow vs Joe Davidson

Mr. Ludlow answered back for the Hawks with a solid performance to once again draw the match level.

Game 5
Cian O'Rourke vs Callum McCrave

There seemed to be a bit of jibing between these two from the moment the draw was announced and now we know why. A cracking contest from start to finish but, unbelievably, another win for the underdogs.

Game 6
Paul McAleer vs Davey Connolly

Squeaky bum time for the Hawks here as rookie Paul faced seasoned thrower Davey Gonnolly. Knowing defeat would send the Hawks crashing out, Paul showed incredible nerve.

After a miscount left him needing double 3, he stepped to the board and calmly buried the dart right in the middle to give the Hawks an unlikely lifeline.

With the score now tied at 4-4, it all came down to one final game.

Game 6 the decider
Ryan Murtagh vs Cara O’Shaughnessy

Cara flew out of the traps and looked full of confidence early on, but in the end it was Ryan Murtagh who held firm to edge the deciding leg and give the Hawks a narrow 5-4 victory.

Paul McAleer
Credit where credit is due. Under immense pressure Paul somehow dug out a huge win to keep our hopes of a treble alive this season. Brilliant composure from the rookie. Well done mate, keep it up. A player to keep eyes on for the future!

Cara O’Shaughnessy
Acting as captain for the first time, Cara had her team absolutely fired up on the night. Not only did they beat Uncle Tom’s, a very strong side from a division above, but they came within touching distance of knocking out the Division 1 league and cup winners. Massive credit to Cara and her team. No doubt she’ll be a force to be reckoned with next season.

The Hawks now move on to the semi finals, which take place this Thursday in the Bodhrán Bar, with the final being played directly afterwards.

Why not come down and show your support to all four teams on finals night in the The Bodhrán? If you’re a darts fan, or a friend of the late great Sonny Grimes, it would be fantastic to see a full house in his memory.

We Won The Fecking Double 🏆 🏆

Last week saw us take on the Commercial Club in the Divisional Cup Final, looking to add the cup to the league title already secured earlier in the month.

Up first in the pairs were Cian O'Rourke and Darren Ludlow against Dean Enright and Conor Shevlin.

The Hawks wasted no time asserting their dominance as Cian produced a brilliant 122 checkout with a bull finish after a superb 140 setup from partner Ludlow, helping the lads take a massive opening win.

Next to the oche were Micky McMahon and Stephen Smith against Gary Shevlin and Mark Flynn. The Hawks duo followed the opening win with another outstanding 2-0 victory to put us firmly in the driving seat in the race to five.

Ryan Murtagh and John Kelly then faced Aidan Dorey and Adam, but this time it was the Commercial who came out on top with a 2-0 win to pull one back.

With the Hawks knowing there was no room to take the foot off the gas heading into the singles, up stepped Stephen Smith against Dean Enright and what a game it was. A match fit for the big stage with fireworks from start to finish, but thankfully Stephen came through on top to restore the cushion for the Hawks.

Next up was Cian against Aidan Dorey. Cian, who is arguably playing the darts of his life in recent months, delivered another Man of the Match performance, winning 2-1 and putting the Hawks 4-1 ahead on the night.

What proved to be the final game of the evening saw Micky McMahon take on Conor Shevlin. Micky held his nerve brilliantly to claim a 2-1 victory and seal the Divisional Cup for the Hawks.

Dundalk & District Darts League, Divisional Cup Semi-Final

Uncle Tom’s Cabin v Bodhrán Hawks

Jackie Duffy and Andrew Duffy got the doubles underway against Ryan Murtagh and Darren Ludlow, and the Hawks wasted no time asserting themselves with a quick 2–0 win. Murtagh capped it off with another ton-plus checkout after a tidy set-up from Ludlow.

Next up were Jonathan and Hughie Smith against Cian O’Rourke and Stephen Smith. The home side responded in a hard-fought contest, taking the first leg before the visitors forced a decider. Jonathan and Hughie held their nerve to win 2–1, levelling the match heading into the final doubles game.

Isaac Smith and Aaron Duffy faced John Kelly and Podge O’Rourke. The Hawks started brightly with multiple ton-plus scores, but disaster struck as O’Rourke, carrying an injury, was clearly struggling as it quite visibly flared up. John did his best to carry the load, but Isaac and Aaron proved too strong, running out 2–0 winners to give the home side a 2–1 lead going into the singles.

Isaac Smith then faced John Kelly straight after their doubles clash. Kelly came out sharp from the start and more than held his own, digging deep to secure a 2–1 win and level the match at 2–2.

Aaron Duffy took on Colin Taaffe in a key game with the match finely poised. Aaron controlled the oche throughout and, despite a strong effort from young Taaffe, sealed a 2–0 win to edge his side 3–2 in front in a race to 5.

With the home side now favourites, Cian O’Rourke had other ideas. Showing real determination, he produced a top performance to beat Hughie Smith 2–0 and bring things level once again.

Jonathan Smith then faced Paul McAleer in a tense encounter, with both players clearly feeling the pressure. McAleer took the first leg before Jonathan responded to force a decider. McAleer will feel unlucky, as it looked like he had hit the winning double, only for it to be the wrong side of the wire. Given a lifeline, Jonathan made no mistake, taking the final leg to put the home side 4–3 ahead with two games remaining.

Andrew Duffy stepped up against Darren Ludlow, knowing a win would send the home side into the final. The pressure was on, but Ludlow approached the oche cool, calm and collected. Despite Andrew throwing everything at it, Ludlow delivered a vital 2–0 win to level the match yet again.

So it all came down to the final game, Jackie Duffy v Ryan Murtagh. After eight mentally draining matches, it was Murtagh who rose to the occasion. He produced a top-class performance, winning 2–0 to seal a hard-fought 5–4 victory for the Hawks and book their place in the Divisional Cup final.

This was without doubt one of the toughest games of the season. Credit to Uncle Tom’s Cabin, who gave us a real scare and pushed it all the way. Thanks to the lads for a brilliant night of darts, great hospitality and great craic.

Dundalk and District Darts League – Divisional Cup

Last Thursday we hosted the Punters in the Divisional Cup, played in a best-of-nine format consisting of three doubles and six singles.

The doubles got underway with John Kelly and Mickey McMahon taking on Jason Kelly and Tommy McNally. Jason Kelly stunned his nephew John early on, opening with a 140 after plenty of friendly pre-match banter. However, it was John and Mickey who had the last laugh, taking the game to put the Hawks 1–0 up.

Next up were Cian O’Rourke and Darren Ludlow against the Rogan brothers, Alan and Eamonn. With three of the four players connected through family, there was plenty of pride on the line, but that didn’t hold anyone back. The Rogan duo were keen to get one over on cousin Cian, making for a very entertaining contest. In the end, the Hawks edged it 2–1 to double their lead.

Game three saw Ryan Murtagh and Podge O’Rourke face Graham Connolly and Johnny Eccles. Podge and Murtagh started strongly and looked set to dominate, but it was Graham and Johnny who found the first double. The Hawks pair responded well, settling into the game and going on to win 2–1, giving their side a 3–0 lead heading into the singles.

The singles began with Paul McAleer taking on Tommy McNally. It was a rare appearance for Paul, making his debut in the Divisional Cup in his first season, and while few expected fireworks, he had other ideas. After both players struggled on doubles in the opening leg, it was McAleer who took it to build confidence. He carried that momentum into the second leg and stepped up with 104 remaining "treble 18, single 20, double 15" to check out in style. The pub erupted as Paul secured his first-ever ton-plus finish and a memorable win, putting the Hawks 4–0 up. A brilliant moment and a sign that the hard work is paying off.

Mickey McMahon was next up against Eamonn Rogan. With the Punters trailing 4–0 in a race to five, Eamonn could have been forgiven for feeling deflated, but he battled well. Still, Mr. Reliable (Mickey) proved too strong and sealed the overall win for the Hawks.

With the match already decided, Colin Taaffe and Jason Kelly still played out their game. The opening leg was evenly contested, but it was the young Taaffe who found the double first. That gave him confidence, and he pushed on to take the second leg comfortably, wrapping up a 6–0 win on the night for the Hawks.

The result sees the Hawks progress to the semi-final, where they will face tough opposition away to Uncle Tom’s this week.

Northend Green 2 Bodhrán Hawks 5

Northend Green started brightly, with Hughie Shields and Simon Wykes both recording comfortable 2–0 wins over Colin Taaffe and Paul McAleer. The Hawks, however, responded well under pressure. Cian O’Rourke got the comeback underway with a strong 2–1 win over Aidan Thompson, before John Kelly levelled the match at 2–2 with a 2–0 victory over Aidan Mernagh.

Darren Ludlow then edged the Hawks ahead for the first time of the night with a solid 2–1 win over Paddy Gibney.

The captains were up next, with Aidan Minto taking on Podge O’Rourke in a closely fought contest. Both players took a leg each against the run of play, forcing a decider, but it was Podge who held his nerve to come out on top and secure the win, sending the Hawks into the Quarter Final of the Shield with a game to spare.

Ryan Murtagh wrapped things up with a 2–1 win over Eugene Coburn, with Eugene putting in a valiant effort but just falling short on the night.

A great result for the league champions, who now face a tough test against The Commercial Club in their Quarter Final clash.

Bodhran Hawks v Corbetts Craicheads

Game 1

Colin Taffee v Barry Dillion
Colin finished off his league season exactly how he started it, with a win over Barry Dillion in a closely contested match. It was Colin who came out on top with a fine performance, winning 3-2.

Game 2

Mickey Mc Mahon v Lorcan Bradly
The ever-consistent Mickey faced off against a worthy opponent in Lorcan, but Mickey showed his experience throughout. Anything Lorcan hit, Mickey responded with more, dominating in great style to secure a 3-1 win.

Game 3

Cian O'Rourke v Conor Stevenson
Cian, over the last few weeks, has been showing glimpses of his old form returning, which will be a welcome sight heading into the cups. He beat Conor 3-0 and was in control for the entire match.

Game 4

Ian Rooney v Robbie Murphy
Ian brushed off the rust and got stuck into Robbie in what was a cracking game to watch. With a barrage of ton-plus scores from both players, it was a cool 105 checkout from Ian that had the pub talking as he ran out a 3-1 winner on the night.

Game 5

Podge O'Rourke v Jack Curley
A rare game for our captain Podge, and he certainly wasn’t given it easy. Jack outscored him early doors and led 2-1, but Podge rallied to level the match. Jack responded with an opening score of 121 in the decider, but it was Podge who had the last laugh with an outstanding 125 checkout, leaving Jack feeling robbed as he looked certain to return to the oche with three darts in hand for his double.

Game 6

Stephen Smith v Mark Dillion
Stephen Smith was impressive as ever. Not only did he complete the whitewash, but he did so with a man of the match performance. In a game that saw 10 ton-plus scores, Smith also produced a brilliant 96 checkout. It really was the game of the evening and a joy to watch.

We finish the league season how we started, with a fine 6-0 win over Corbetts Craicheads.

Bodhran Hawks vs Bodhran Rebels

Before the match began this week, a minute’s applause was held to celebrate the life of David Doyle. David is the son of Bodhran Rebels captain Kevin Doyle, and it was a beautiful tribute. The Hawks captain dedicated this game to David’s honour.

Mickey McMahon v Oisin Dixon

Mickey was on the front foot from the start, hitting a barrage of high scores from his opening visits. His wealth of experience proved too much for young Dixon to handle, with Mickey running out a comfortable 3–1 winner.

Stephen Smith v Conor Hoey

Another dominant performance for the Hawks followed, with Stephen putting Conor to the sword with some heavy scoring. Smith ran out a brilliant 3–1 winner.

John Kelly v Nick Hoey

A cracking game of darts saw John race into a 2–0 lead. However, Nick responded in tremendous fashion to bring the match back to 2–2. The deciding leg could have gone either way. With the momentum now with Nick, could he capitalise? Unfortunately not, as John held his nerve and hit the winning double to put the Hawks 3–0 up.

Paul McAleer v Trevor Doyle

Beginner Paul could count himself very unlucky getting drawn against such a formidable and experienced player in Trevor. Despite a valiant effort, Paul would go on to lose 3–1, but he takes away valuable experience from the match. Unlucky Paul, keep the head up.

Cian O'Rourke v Cillian Dixon

A real humdinger of a match that went back and forth the whole way. Cian can count his blessings as Cillian pushed him all the way and had him under severe pressure. Cian had to win the last two legs to grab the win, not just for himself but for the team, putting the Hawks 4–1 to the good with one game left to play.

Ryan Murtagh v Fra Dillon

With the match secured and a potential title on the line, we needed Ryan to win to help extend our leg difference, and that he did. Ryan proved too strong for Fra and ran out a 3–0 winner.

Shortly afterwards, news filtered through that our title rivals Uncle Tom’s Cabin had lost to Corbett’s Craicheads, and that result means we are now the 2026 First Division Champions with a game to spare.

Finally, we would like to offer our deepest sympathies to the entire Doyle family and the friends of David. We pray that you all find strength in your cherished memories of David, and may he rest in peace.

This match was played in David’s memory, and we are honoured that it was the game in which we secured the league title in his name.
