Irish Medical Organisation's NCHD Page Time For Change The IMO National NCHD Committee is developing positions on contracts and it is vital that all NCHDs feed into this process.

The IMO has launched a new initiative to ensure all NCHDs - training and non-training - have the opportunity to engage and feed into their future contracts. Over the coming months we will be holding meetings around the country and on web- based forums so that NCHDs can have a voice in determining what they need in terms of contracts and career development.

The IMO will be appearing before the Oireachtas Health Committee next week on the topic of morale of employees in the HSE.

We want to ensure we reflect your lived experience and highlight the issues that are impacting on low morale amongst doctors and we need just 1 MINUTE of your time to complete our survey.

IMO gives cautious welcome to HSE Physician Assistant review

We welcome the review’s clear distinction between Doctor and PA, and its recommendation to refer to the grade as ‘physician assistant’ rather than ‘physician associate’, to minimise the risk of patients confusing the grade with that of a doctor.

However, there are concerns around regulation and resourcing that need to be addressed for the grade to integrate effectively.

The work of PAs cannot negatively impact on the training of NCHDs which should be the priority, and NCHDs should not be expected to undertake any training or supervision role in respect of PAs.

We expect the HSE to engage with IMO regarding a national framework around the introduction of the PA position into the health system

University Maternity Hospital Limerick

It has been brought to our attention that University Maternity Hospital Limerick are not granting compensatory rest to NCHDs who have been rostered for 12 consecutive days.

This is unacceptable!

You are entitled to a compensatory rest day where you are rostered for 10 or 11 consecutive days in line with your contract.

We are actively engaging with HR on this matter to ensure you receive appropriate rest in line with your contract and the European Working Time Directive.
