Fitness and Longevity.

As we mention in the reel the benefits could on and on.

Also as mentioned if you’re not doing some form of physical exercise the best time to start is now.

Send us a DM if you’re living/working around Dublin City and feel like a personalised program and fitness community would help!

In a brilliant podcast with Luka Hocevar, Dr Tommy Wood (whose research specialises in brian health across the lifespan) spoke about Cognitive motor skill, rapid processing skill component.

One of the things he spoke about was the loss of processing speed in the brain. Primarily because as adults we tend to stop doing things that require us to process information quickly.

He talks about having to do things quickly, like catching a tennis ball.

He also spoke about the brain benefits of doing exercises that have more of a rapid processing speed component, because of how it challenges our brains in a way that causes us to process information quickly.

Mix it in with some solid strength and conditioning etc and you’re doing some serious good for for your brain health.

The above is a big part of why I love going to the Body Development mentorship and have continued to do so for so many years.

At it we have been working on exercises that work us both cognitively and physically from the first time I went over there upto the present mentorship at the weekend.

All put together in a useful, practical way, that we practice ourselves and use to help challenge our members and increase the enjoyment they get from their workouts with us.

A great combination alongside the strength and conditioning we do.

The reel shows a very small sample of some of the exercises we’ve learned to implement at the mentorship.

So if you’re living in Dublin and would like to train in a manner that’ll work to challenge you both in a physical and cognitive manner, send us a DM

And if you’re a coach looking to up your game and develop an extensive range of ways you can help challenge and progress your clients, get in touch with about their mentorship. I can’t recommend it highly enough…

Now we’re past the 1/2 way mark in 2026, it’s maybe time for you to have a fitness reset.

Especially if your New Years Resolutions feel as distant a memory as Ireland’s last World Cup appearance.

But it doesn’t have to mean you go all Roy Keane hardass on yourself.

Check the tips below to help you kick forward and ready to move like Shakira at the end of year parties!

1. Don’t make it a “Must Try Harder” session. If you try forcing yourself into doing the things you committed to in January but didn’t follow through on, you’ll waste your time.

It’s a chance to make things more likely to happen.

2. Look at what worked. And what didn’t: Some people go to extremes that only leave them frustrated and disappointed.

What can you build on? What have you had success with and enjoyed so far, foundations that some tweaks can be added to? For example if you’ve enjoyed getting out for walks, can you add more or give yourself targets to increase the distance you’re covering?

If you’ve managed to get to the gym twice a week, is a 3rd session feasible?

3. What do you want? Are you overly focused on something like the weight on a scales resulting in being side tracked when you’re disappointed about weigh ins?

Or are you looking more long term where you’re feeling great in your clothes, with excellent energy levels and strong and confident for daily life and big events (or curveballs!) coming your way?

The reasons to work on your fitness are endless. But if you don’t have real excitement/genuine desire around what you want to get from being fitter and healthier, it’ll make it harder for you to keep the process up when obstacles appear.

 4. Focus on the process and figure out how small you need to make it: One thing you can control when it comes to working on your health is the process and how you go about your days.

If you’ve strugged with aspects so far, strip it back, get some wins, then build.

5. Know it’s long term and identity is so important: Speaking of wins, if you make the goal to be someone who enjoys working out and looking after their health you’ll definitely get on the right track.

12 fitness thoughts/tips in no particular order:

1. Work on both your Conditioning and Strength. Develop an engine for your energy and a frame to carry that engine around.

2. Train in more than one direction. Your body is designed to move through numerous planes of motion - use them.

3. Effective exercise is a must have if you want to maximise the quantity and quality of your life.

4. As you get older, it’s both more important and slightly harder to move more. Prioritising it is so important.

5. Thinking “what can you gain” instead always of “what do you need to lose” when it comes to your fitness can be very empowering.

6. Whatever your age, you can still make physical improvements through exercise. Our most senior PT member trained on Thursday this week, after playing a couple of tennis matches. She is 80, and has more energy than many people half her age.

7. You’d be surprised at how many solid friendships are developed in gyms.

8. Think of your nutrition in terms of both fuel and enjoyment - not just enjoyment.

9. Create a training schedule that fits your life, not an athlete or Insta influencer. There’ll be periods you’ll be able to train harder, maximise those. There will be periods you’ll have a lot of other things going on. Stay consistent in those.

10. Make sure you warm up before training.

11. Don’t neglect recovery.

12. A solid program done consistently is far better than a perfect program done haphazardly.

Effective training doesn’t have to be super complicated, but it does need to be consistent.

Shoot us a DM if you’re looking to develop a plan you can stick to, enjoy the process and get the results you want along the way!
