Born in Kazakhstan and now based in London, Samson Tsoy is an astonishing performer, lauded for his originality, ‘inexhaustible imagination’ and the intense drama of his performances, and for this performance he brings those talents to bear on Beethoven’s late, great piano sonatas. Written when the composer was completely deaf, the late sonatas are deeply personal works that opened new possibilities for the sonata and ushered in the golden age of the piano.
