South Dublin Ramblers

South Dublin Ramblers Hill walking club for all levels. One monthly walk starting in February and running through to September.

South Dublin Ramblers is a public hill walking club for adults 18+ located in South County Dublin. We run a schedule of hill walks from February to September and a Festive Walk in December in the Dublin and Wicklow mountains and a weekend away during the summer. The club caters for three levels of participant with walks for beginners, intermediate and advanced club members spread across the weeken

ds including some evening walks during the summer. All participants take part on the organised walks at their own risk and it is compulsory for all Members to have imdemnity against all claims in place with Mountaineering Ireland. This imdemnity is included in Mountaineering Ireland membership. We encourage healthy living and promote basic map reading and navigation skills for those who are interested on our walks. Members pay an annual fee with the club year running from 1st November 2021 until 31st October 2022. Annual membership is €40 and includes Mountaineering Ireland membership. In previous years, we have completed the following walks:

• Glenasmole Waterworks
• Glendalough
• Maulin
• Djouce
• Gap of Dunloe, Co. Kerry
• Fairy Castle & Tibradden
• Lugnaquilla
• Sugarloaf

We aim to resume our schedule in late 2021 and into 2022, so if you feel like a new challenge, looking to meet like minded outdoorsy people or are looking to regain some fitness in the great outdoors, why not get in touch with us and we can furnish you with further information.

Good evening to one and all,

After thirteen years in one incarnation or another, I'm calling time on the South Dublin Ramblers. It has been a great experience and I've enjoyed it thoroughly.

For the first walk, I started out in Glendalough with four other Ramblers and finished up recently in Co. Down having completed, in the interim, walks in all four provinces, France and Spain with hundreds of different walkers.

I would like to thank you all for participating, the banter, the singing, the pints and having the chat. I know this email will not reach everyone who has participated in years gone by so please pass the word along if you have the chance.

I'm not retiring from the mountains; indeed, plans are afoot for the next few years and who knows, our paths may cross in high places.

Feel free to drop me a line for advice on anything mountain-wise and do continue your adventures in the mountains.

Ciao for now,
Dan.

A great day out in stellar weather to round off the club year saw us in Co. Down tackling Slieve Donard (850m). A packed mountain with great views awaited us; well done to all who participated!

That's it for 2022. A big thank you to everyone who walked with us this year. :-)

Scorchio! A belter of a day in Co. Wicklow today as the group tackled first Djouce and then Maulin in sweltering heat. Thankfully the river Dargle was near by for a cook dip. Well done to all involved!

A lap of Glendalough was the order of business today for the Ramblers taking in a steep ascent of Derrybawn before crossing the long ridge to Mullacor. Not even a band of flock of goats and sheep could prevent us! Well done to all involved!

Next walk: Djouce and Maulin, Saturday 16th July.

Met Eireann said no rain in the morning. They lied. A few slips, trips and splashes on Tonelagee (817m) today but the sun came out towards the end and everyone made it back in one piece to the car park. Well done to all involved!

Next walk: 18th June, Derrybawn, Glendalough, Co. Wicklow.

A few pictures of our recent trips to the Dublin and Wicklow mountains. A very windy day today on The Spinc, Glendalough (450m) but our hardy bunch, including a couple of first time visitors, persevered. Well done to all involved!

Next walk: Tonelagee, Co. Wicklow, Saturday 21st May.

A cold and rainy day greeted us this morning up Cruagh and Tibradden in the Dublin mountains. A small amount of snow still clinging on on Cruagh in the sheltered areas. Well done to everyone who braved the elements this morning!

Next walk: Fairy Castle and Tibradden, 26th March.

Just some of the benefits of hill walking, not to mention, the cup of tea afterwards!
