This morning I was chatting to a client just before he started a tough conditioning block. He was talking about the sense of dread he gets just before doing something that he knows is going to be really hard. This feeling is a mixture of anxiety, nerves, stress and excitement and something weโve all experienced a thousand times.
Our bodies will trigger this response just before we take the plunge into any daunting situation like a giving a speech, going for an interview, running out to play a match etc. The physical reaction to whatโs happening is the exact same, what changes and what we have control over is how our mind channels it.
Your mindset and approach have a huge part to play in this. By embracing the challenge with clarity and purpose you literally have the power to turn feelings of fear and anxiety into ones of excitement and empowerment.
Feel whatโs happening in your body first with some slow breathing and then bring your attention to your mind. Focus on what youโre about to do and visualise yourself succeeding. The more you do this the easier it will become and the more you'll embrace this feeling instead of running from it. โ๐ป
